1st RW120 OK, 2nd one Bad, cust-support nonexistent
My 1st RW120 got old and tired after 2+ years and 10,000 scans. I liked it well enough to order a new replacement. Uninstall/Install of drivers and Paperport went smoothly. Scan quality of the new unit was bad. My iPhone with $[...] PDF App does as well or better, as did my old tired RW120.I looked for help on [...]. Nothing useful in the knowledge base. They listed a 900-number; I presume that costs $10/min so I didn't call it. The paper instructions mention a trouble-ticket filing site but not where to find it. I found no useful support on Visioneer's web-site.I really wanted this RW120 to work. I spent 5 hours uninstall/installing, calibrate/re-calibrating, looking for help, then gave up with nothing to show for it. With no other recourse I clicked the Amazon Return link (for the 1st time ever) and found it easy to use. This was a Lose-Lose scenario. I lost my time; Visioneer got a poor review and a returned unit. Some symptoms: poor or nonexistent brightness control, many black lines (or white lines) across the image, and often the paper feed would stall/sputter in mid-scan causing a very distorted image. The knowledge base had tips in case the scanner didn't scan - these did not apply. The scanner created an image 1st time, every time, but the images in Paperport were unacceptably bad.My grade of 2-star reflects both my 1st and 2nd RW120 experience. The 1st RW120 gave quite good results initially. I'd rate it 4-star, only because the paper feed runs crooked easily (and I found that acceptable in such a small scanner). After a few months it forgot how to auto-expose scans; after that I often had to manually adjust brightness by trial-and-error. Scan quality remained pretty good, degrading gradually over 2 years to unacceptable. I rate it 3-star average for 2 years. The 2nd RW120 I rate 1-star. Average of 1st and 2nd RW120 is 2-star.

Handy, Quick, Great Software Included
Couldn't be better, especially for the price. Very portable, for when a phone picture just won't manage what you need. We bring it out of the office so we can scan receipts, business cards, warranty information, legal documents and anything else we can't get soft copies of, while we watch television. The included software really made this product stand out among the competition. Omnipage and Paperport very easy to use, the one-touch scanning is very easy to set up and to adjust on the fly. Once the document is scanned (yes, you need to learn how to get the pages in straight without a large pane of glass to guide you), processing is very quick and simple - if you didn't quite get things level-straight, the auto-straightening feature works great. If you need to be able to search text, Omnipage runs an excellent OCR program. It even saw through busy colored business cards to pull all the right information with hardly a correction needed! Organizing your documents is a simple drag-and-drop process, and previews are a click away. Most documents don't need to be run through OCR, so you can save time and space by just keeping their images. Now instead of relying on a huge file cabinet, our important documents are on a secure server (encrypt separately), and we have a similar copy on disc somewhere outside the home. Now if there ever were a reason to leave home quickly, no one will be worried about going back for documents!

Long term user disappointed
We recently decided to upgrade our computers to Windows 7 Home Premium, but one problem was that our trusty Visioneer Strobe scanner, was no longer supported. As a long term user of visioneer products, we decided to purchase the road warrior portable scanner, since it resembled the strobe, and was Win 7 compatible. We were excited to receive it, and install. I found that the Paperport was a rev 11, and we were running version 12, so I decided not to load the apps and only load the drivers. After the install, and calibration page complete, I opened Paperport, selected the Road Warrior, and scanned my first document. It produced a black page. the Recalibration is nowhere to be found. I racked this up to built up anticipation, and figured I did something wrong. I uninstalled the driver, and decided to install from scratch. ( Still not Paperport, but opted to install Omni Page. When Omni page finished and suggested registration, I agreed, and was asked for the serial number of the software. ??? There was no serial numbers other than the scanner included in this package. I skipped the registration with a box that indicated it would remind (nag) me in a week. Okay fine.I then tried scaning as a general photo task, and recieved a Copy protection failure, stating I needed a VRSfile-import dongle. I did a Visioneer Knowledge base search and found that there was a fix for this error in 2007. I attempted to use the instructions, only to be discouraged to tell me that the fix was not available in this version of Windows ( I don't know if they meant &, XP or Vista) I then decided to put this problem aside and try the scanner with Paperport. After selecting the Road Warrior, It somewhat scanned the document properly, (usually with Paperport and my strobe, once paperport is opened the the folder you select, you then feed the document into the feeder, and it saves it to that folder) This did not work, it would scan and place the file in the temp directory. To get it to save in the selected folder, I had to press scan now , and the insert the document. That just bummed me.My wife, who wanted me to install the total package, including Paperport 11, asde me to gie it another try. I uninstalled Paperport 12, all of the Road Warrior drivers, and omni Soft, rebooted, and installed the whole thing. What i didn't get was he VRSfile-import dongle error, But my PC locked up, Had to use task Manager to force close the scanner. Opened Paperport the scan still went to the temp directory, Tried scan now, pressed the button, Bang. Locked up again.I'm sorry that I whined too long, but I have been active with Personal computers since the Altair 8800. and every version of win/dos since the IBM came out. so it makes me upset that this issue caused me to package the unit back up and request a refund.Visioneer needs to review their relationship with their partnered software developers.

Not the best scans but gets the job done.
This product was put to use in a hazardous mobile work environment and while not producing great scans at all, got the job done. We knew this might be the case going in, but for an international project, we needed this crude product to scan items and email them out fast while mobile. It's benefit is being powered by a USB port. The product is straight forward enough to use and the learning curve to get better than the ordinary scans isn't difficult. I just wish the product was a little more rugged and could scan clearer.
