"The Texan's Surprise Son" by Cathy McDavid is the continuation of the Texas Rodeo Baron series. Whether you've read the series or read this one alone it is an easy, quick read that you will enjoy.This book is the story of Jacob Baron and Mariana Snow. Mariana shows up to tell Jacob that her sister, who Jacob had an affair with, has died and that he is the father of a little boy. He has a DNA test done and the test comes back positive that he is the father.Mariana moves in briefly so that Jacob and his son Cody could learn to be around each other. Cody knows his Aunt and she didn't want to leave him because he had so recently lost his mother. Knowing how that feels Jacob is on board to having Mariana there. Plus, feeling that he doesn't have his step fathers support Jacob wants Cody to know that no matter what he would be there for him.Love has a way of bringing more than 2 people together. Maybe Jacob will learn that he really isn't an outsider in the Baron family, and he can learn to trust his feelings.

This was my first Harlequin American Romance read, but it sure won't be my last. I wasn't expecting much given the short length and that there are so many different series like this by Harlequin. And yet once I started I didn't want to put it down. Cody was so cute, and the author made him seem so real; Jacob was everything you wish you could find in a guy, sincere, intelligent, extraordinarily good looking, rugged, and family oriented; Mariana was a little difficult to put up with in a few places, but her background story explains why, and she was intelligent, attractive, and like Jacob, she loves Cody, and like Cody, she loves Jacob. Jacob's family was interesting, look forward to reading about Daniel next, and there was rodeo action and warm and fuzzy family moments with Cody. I am now searching out not just Cathy McDavid, but also these little Harlequin gems. I never even knew they existed until stumbling over them here at Amazon. Recommend giving this fast reading story a try. Sometimes you just want a light HEA.

Jacob- Absolutely droolworthy, dream partner.Marianna- Strong (a little misguided) , principledCody- The cutest babyJacob & Marianna : their journey to falling in love and working at what is best for Cody is beautifully written.Their personal and professional dreams - so well laid out.The family dynamics are described very well. You can imagine it all.

A little slow and not as exciting as I like.But a good story nevertheless.Not what I usually expect from Cathy McDavid.
