Stef Soto, Taco Queen

Tacos, friendship, family
Jennifer Torres delivers a pitch perfect story of tween life - trouble with friends, irritation with overprotective parents, finding your voice. All with a taco truck named Tia Perla. Great for readers in upper elementary school, and for a family or classroom read aloud. Celebrate the end of the book with tacos!

engaging, heartfelt middle-grade novel
Stef Soto, Taco Queen is real about the challenges some immigrant families face to make ends meet financially. Stef’s parents work hard — they worked hard to save for the food truck and to run it — as does Stef. Author Jennifer Torres also highlights other immigrant challenges. For example, Stef often has to translate important information for her father who isn’t confident about his English-speaking skills. Her parents are also extremely protective, fearing for their child in a new country, even though Stef is American.I loved Stef Soto, Taco Queen and would highly recommend for food lovers, readers who enjoy books about the immigrant experience, and anyone whose parents have worked hard so they can pursue their dreams. Stef Soto, Taco Queen is an engaging, heartfelt, and delicious middle-grade novel. I’m excited to read what author Jennifer Torres writes next!

Great before delivery
Books appeared to be in perfect condition prior to delivery. Unfortunately the person who delivered shoved them into my mailbox causing two to rip and one to bend completely in half.

okay and her love for art
STEF SOTO, TACO QUEEN is a heart-warming middle-grade debut. The main character, Estefania "Stef" Soto, won me over with her sincerity and strength of spirit, okay and her love for art. (Not to mention her art teacher is also pretty great.) I'm a sucker for books centered around authentic family dynamics and relatable friendships, however rocky they may first seem. And this book has both in spades, with a healthy dose of food truck scenes that will leave you hankering for your own Tia Perla burrito. I'd give this book 5 tacos if I could. An uplifting read by an author to watch.

My a daughter and I read this for her Battle of the Books. We both really enjoyed it.

Story about family and friendship
Such a sweet book about a girl whose dad owns a taco truck and her embarrassment about it, along with school drama on treating to fit in. Such a great story about friendship and family and fighting for justice.

Highly recommended: authentic and endearing!
Stef Soto, Taco Queen is a great read! Family, friends, teachers, pop stars and Tia Perla, the taco truck make for a rich cast of characters dealing with real-life situations that will resonate with readers. My library book club of 4th-6th graders enjoyed it immensely.

Fun and inspiring family read!!
My children (10, 8, 5) were captivated for hours until the very end!! Impressed with protagonist, Stef Soto. She truly represents the immigrant generational gap: parents were tasked with survival and their seeds with self-actualization <3... Órale!

One of the best books I've ever read
I liked how Stef woke up in the middle of the night to repaint Tia Perla (her family's taco truck) so her Papi wouldn't have to sell it even though she didn't like Tia Perla that much. I disliked that Stef's former BFF Julia kept calling her the "Taco Queen". It was a really interesting book.

The story is great but very disappointed with the quality of the book. Really flimsy cover and cheaply put together.
