Impressive and heavy weighted
A very well presented knife, extremely sharp as you would expect from any brand new knife. Quite heavy on the front end but I dare say with a cleaver then it's where you need the weight and certainly has no problem going through bones and ribs and still being able to finely slice tomatoes and garlic etc.The blackened blade adds to the hand forged claim, but with the reasonable price of the knife and the presentation box etc. that claim can perhaps be taken with a pinch of salt but shouldn't impact your decision on purchasing. The knife looks great, it is well made with a good strong and extremely sharp blade, weighted on the front end to make heavy cutting that bit easier.More than happy to recommend this knife.

Nice cleaver but...
Although I'm broadly impressed with this cleaver, I'm disappointed that despite only having been carefully rinsed and dried by hand, it's already - after only a week of use - developing rust spots. I can keep on top of them though, using abrasion and by oiling the patches. In fairness, despite the listing claiming 'anti rust', the manual does address the fact that this cleaver this will indeed rust over time, and gives instructions for how to deal with it. And indeed, the knife did arrive coated in protective grease, so the rust is not a surprise. I just didn't expect it so soon!Nevertheless, this is a good and weighty cleaver, and very sharp, too. It's fantastic for mincing and smooshing (e.g. garlic) and for finely slicing vegetables and meat, and dicing, too. In fact, it's a joy to use, and easily as efficient as my trusted regular one.Price-wise, it's about three times more expensive than I'd expect to pay for a no.3 size cleaver in a Chinese store but this one isn't aimed at the Asian market - it's marketed to Westerners, who will pay more money, ha ha!Based on my own experiences both as a home cook and professional chef of 40+ years, I do feel that the basic Chinese cleavers are far more durable. Not least because this one is made from a soft steel, so it will blunt quicker than stainless, and will require sharpening / honing more frequently.Again, the manual gives instructions for this - you should definitely use a honing steel, not a whetstone (there's a bit of mistranslation in certain parts of the booklet!). If you've never used a steel before, there are lots of videos online to show you how to do it.As I said at the beginning of this review, overall, I'm quite impressed with this cleaver... however, I wouldn't buy it. If I were looking for a new one, I'd go to an Asian store, either local or online. I do feel this this one is more of a novelty item, rather than an everyday culinary workhorse. But if you're looking for a nice gift for a culinarily-adventurous friend or relative, who would only use it occasionally, then this is probably going to be fine.

Really nice looking knife that is nice to chop with.
I chop onions pretty much every day and I really like this knife for that use, the blade thickness is fine for it.My other cleaver of a similar size has a thicker blade at the back.It feels nice to chop with and has a good balance.I am ensuring to keep it dried to stop any rust spots and thus far it is looking as good as the day I opened it.

Excellent Weight and a Very Sharp Blade With a Solid Handle
I ordered this tang along with another one as I do a lot of cooking and my own preparation such as ribs and portioning of whole chickens. I was using a heavy meat cleaver however it wasn't very sharp which meant I had to use a lot more force so I hoped that these would help and they do just that. This knife is the more expensive of the two however it does have a heavier blade. On opening, this tang is made to a good standard with a very sharp blade and a solid handle. The knife has a very good weight to it making it easy to use for cutting through smaller bones such as pork ribs and for quartering chickens. As well as using this for cutting through bones I use the two of them together for general food chopping of meat and vegetables, I can use one knife to hold the item being cut whilst using the other for rapid chopping or even use the two at the same time for fine chopping of fresh vegetables and herbs, once the preparation is complete I can then use the two of these to collect and deposit the chopped food into the pans with ease instead of using my hands. These tangs are very versatile but if you have never used one then there will be a bit of a learning curve and they are quite heavy to use compared to a standard card chefs knife.Overall, this is well made and is very good value, there blade is sharp and the weight is sufficient for just about every cutting job in the kitchen.Recommended.

Nice quality chef knife
This seems like a very versatile knife, which it says is for slicing, dicing and chopping in the kitchen. It also suggests it’s good for hunting, hiking and camping. With no blade protection I don’t think I’d want to take this out of the kitchen! It comes in a nice presentation box with a plastic sleeve around the knife. It has a comfortable grip and although it’s a bit intimidating to use at first, you soon get the hang of a deep blade. It’ll definitely be put to good use in dicing meat and vegetables. It’s just a shame it doesn’t come with a more protective blade cover.
