Super book
I am a beginner at gardening, and have inherited a rather overgrown cottage style when I bought my Victorian terraced house. This book has definitely been the most useful I have bought. The book concentrates on two types of garden, the informal "artisan" garden and the more formal "gentleman's" garden and how to plan them. The largest section of the book concentrates on plants for different parts of the border. The style is informative but never dogmatic, and the author has a real passion and often talks about the history of the plants as well as how they should be used and how to care for them. There are hundreds of photos for inspiration too. A brilliant book on the subject!

Excellent quality
This book was rated as 'good' - in fact, it should have been 'good as new'! Extremely pleased with the quality, arrived within given timeframe and a bargain - thankyou!

Lovely old fashioned sensible book
Gardening can get a bit pretentious now can't it? And that often means expensive, and I have to do cheap at the min. This is a lovely old fashioned, but not out of date, book that is full of info. The sort that your gran tried to teach you if you were listening. Yes I was Nanna, but I need a re-fresh and this is just the ticket.

Purchased after lending my own copy out and never getting it back!
Lovely book - George Hamilton at his best. Have fond memories of watching George Hamilton on Gardeners World. The book was in very good condition and the price was good. George shares his knowledge and ideas - its an old book, yes, but one I go back to for inspiration again and again.

Fantastic book to get some ideas
It was such a delight to read this book. Yes, it doesn’t have dozens of plans on how to create a cottage garden but thats the whole point - every garden is different. What Geoff does here is guides the reader on how the whole concept is done, what to look for, how to think about the plants. All in all amazing book

As expected from Geoff Hamilton, excellent. This delivers exactly what you would expect from such a sadly missed master. It is superbly written and illustrated and provides exactly the information needed or wanted to create a beautiful garden. This is a must have purchase if you are interested in cottage gardening. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Superb Book
I have waited a long time for this book and it didn't disappoint. Full of information, helpful hints and design suggestions. I especially liked all the information he put in about how the Cottage Garden came about. Typical Geoff Hamilton.....down to earth, clear and concise descriptions.....I still miss this man.

The best book
This was a replacement copy as I gave my original away. It’s a lovely book, the best. Has lots of ideas and plans for various wooden structures - obelisks, trellis etc.
