Alzheimer's simplified! GREAT BOOK! VERY INFORMATIVE!!! GREAT READ!!!
For a long time we have been seeing what my brothers and I thought was Alzheimer's symptoms in my mom. My uncle died last year from it. I wanted to know more. I have been reading and googling around on the internet. This book was more than helpful and was not complicated to read or understand. I appreciated the advice from the primary care giver perspective. Now I know, women get it more than men it was a great and scary thing to know! I would It was very helpful to read this book. I plan on being the primary caregiver for my mother once she starts ailing. It is very important for me to know the differences between dementia and Alzheimer's and a mixed diagnosis and the language behind it. Urinary tract infections causing hallucinations is another one I did not know. My goal in reading this book is to gain information and clarity in making my mom as comfortable as possible in this life. This onset of Alzheimer can be scary and heart breaking if you do not know what you are looking at, doing or understand the illness. The love one does not mean any harm. If they do not remember, or They cannot help it. Alzheimer's wipes the memory away completely. That has to sad not just for the parent, but the child. I just wanted to learn all I can and this book is one of the most helpful reads ever!!!

Alzheimers is a deadly killer and effects many people. Education of this deadly disease is critical!
With the baby boomer generation reaching retirement age, the number of people with Alzheimer's is expected to increase up to 7.1 million by 2025. This short and easy to read book is a resourceful way to help educate and inform loved ones who are considering their options when faced with this debilitating illness. The book is outlined in a manner that helps potential caregivers/loved ones prepare for and to explore their options as the disease progresses. The explanation of what is Alzheimer's, difference between Alzheimer's and Dementia, diagnosing of Alzheimer's, and the description of the mental and physical changes was most helpful. The book was thorough and descriptive when explaining the care and alternative care options in simple and easy terms. Organizing the financials and managing legal issues were both great chapters to help the average potential caregiver become knowledgeable about what steps/actions should be taken. The online resources and reference material in the appendix was fantastic for providing additional information for anyone needing to expand on their knowledge of this deadly disease. This appendix provides information for support groups, online resources, and additional resources. Overall, I would highly recommend this book for anyone who wants a quick study in Alzheimer's and all of the basics that are needed for planning and executing life with a potential Alzheimer's patient.

Heartfelt Help for Alzheimer's Victims, and their Families
Understand Alzheimer's: A First-Time Caregiver's Plan is a guide from Calistoga Press that helps to prepare families to care for a member suffering from Alzheimer's. It helps to explain how the disease is different from any other dementia and the malfunctions in the brain that cause the symptoms. It also explains how being a caregiver can affect you, what kind of stresses and conflicts you can expect to arise, and some suggestions for handling them. One key is to maintain your own health as well, so you can continue to provide effective care for the patient. They explain the seven stages of the disease and help you to determine how to handle each stage. Calistoga Press enlightens the audience to the fact that there is more to Alzheimer's care than just managing memory loss. As a caregiver for your loved one you will need to help them with every facet of daily living as the disease progresses. The guide also helps you to determine when it may be time to look into a professional assisted-living facility. The author/s realizes that every family's situations will be different and helps the reader figure out a plan for them. As someone that has lost a family member to Alzheimer's (my grandmother a couple years back) I can attest that this book covers the vast majority of things you will have to contend with, and does an admirable job of attempting to best prepare one for the job of primary caregiver.
