... in Winter" is the catalogue of one of my favorite art exhibitions of all time
"Impressionists in Winter" is the catalogue of one of my favorite art exhibitions of all time. I visited it often when it was up at the Phillips Gallery, in Washington DC, from 1998-1999. The beauty of the paintings - the sparkle of light upon snow - the curatorial focus on such a bright, but previously understudied, slice of the Impressionists' work. And fortunately, the catalogue does justice to the exhibition. Beginning with the front essays and extending through the catalogue descriptions to the back material (exhibition checklist and catalogue, winter weather chronology, index), there is so much information about the artists and paintings that even 17 years later (I am writing in 2016) I've gained new insights from rereading it.The full-page color reproductions in this catalogue are beautiful, and the next-best thing to being there. All I can say is that you must - and I am really serious about this - view them in full sunlight. Just do it, and then you will know what I am talking about.

Great book for great exhibit.
This was a great exhibit. We saw it twice. We were able to take my son (in high school at the time) a a couple of his friends. The friends wouldn't have normally gone to an art exhibit and they enjoyed it so that was a nice experience. But we didn't have the book as we closed the museum down that day and I've been meaning to buy it ever since.I love so many of these paintings. Have seen asime of them in Paris back in the day and just stood there and stared. I am drawn to these winter scenes more than most other impressionist scenes. This is a great book to go with a very special exhibit.

Impressionists in Winter: Effets de Neige
For a used book, I was surprised at the excellent condition it was in. It really is a beautiful book to have. The quality of the colour prints is very good and it is a valuable reference to have so many 'snow' paintings together for comparison, when working with my art group.
