Catalyst for water-based conversion varnish
I had built my own kitchen cabinets a few years ago and had a lot of GF conversion varnish left. When I went to use it, I found that a partial bottle of catalyst had hardened. So I ordered this one as a replacement. It works. I squirted a bit of argon into the partial bottle now. Hopefully that will keep it from hardening over time. FYI - the conversion varnish itself had no issue, other than a lot of settling, so a lot of mixing was required. General Finishes are excellent and this water-based conversion varnish is is excellent. For 3 years we've been using our new kitchen. Very happy with this conversion varnish over time. I had a few spots that had chip[ped from impact and I was so happy to have excellent success repairing said areas. I used Q-tips. First I dabbed a bit of stain that I had handy. Then I dabbed some conversion varnish onto it. The downside of conversion varnish is the difficulty in repair. Vanished from viewing distance! I'm sticking with it, and I could do even better with a few more Q-tip touch up coats and wet sanding - but nobody in my household complains, so good enough - and good enough that I no longer notice, and I'm the one who built them.

Beautiful Finish
Although expensive at $200 a gallon, this product is worth it. So much easier to spray than poly, which runs easily and takes 3 times as long to dry. Clean up with water is a huge plus.

What a ripoff.
This is a two component finish, without the catalyst added it will not harden. The manufacturer sells it as a kit. After I bought it I discovered that these people sell the catalyst separately rendering the finish worthless. I’m returning it. These are the kind of people who would sell you a car and then after you pay for it ask if you wanted wheels with that. Don’t buy from them.

Different than spraying oil. The wetter the better to eliminate orange peel.
Can put 3 costs on in 6 hrs. Instead of 3 days like you would have to wait if using oil based. Low voc. If you have an orange peel problem sand between coats and next coat apply heavy. I found the wetter you make the surface the better.

Awesome durable product!
First time using this product!! I typically use minwax Polycrylic or lacquer. I can say this goes on thick and hard!! Easy to use as long as you can read and follow the simple instructions.

Not like it used to be!
I've been using the conversion varnish for about a year and a half now with never any issues until it was being shipped in plastic containers. It's very clumpy! With my last few gallon purchases I've had to use my power drill mixer on it as well as add alot of distilled water for thinning and when I go and strain it into my spray cup very little still passes through! I've had to use about 10 strainers until I was able to finally get enough to spray in my cup! Then after a few minutes of spraying, my gun starts to spit because the tiny strainer in my cup starts getting clogged! I went through 3 gun strainers on a table because of this, ridiculous! This has been happening with several plastic gallon containers of varnish that I've purchased recently. I'm not sure if the issues are caused from the plastic container, but I've never had any issues with it when it came in the can. It's unfortunate because I used to love it!

Can't get ahold of customer service
They sent me 2 gallons. One worked well and the other was bad. Super watery. I'm trying to get support, but it's hard.
