Did not read it myself
All I can say is my Dad who I got this for his 91st B/D liked it and he can be fussy. He packed for the USFS as a young man and later took us kids on pack trips. Also packed for Elk hunting in the fall. He loves the wilderness and horses.

Ready for Adventure.
This was my go-to winter reading. It kept me excited for summer trips into the Wilderness. I can't help but wonder however, if he pulled his weight in camp. I don't know how he found the time to keep such detailed and thoughtful journals. Inspiring.

Great journal entries on wilderness and public lands management
Great journal entries on wilderness and public lands management, written by a man of strong words. Conflicted at times, as public natural resource managers ought to be, this is a great insight into the questions raised about our current battle over public lands ownership.

Great read!
A great read for those times between backcountry trips. Ward conveys his wilderness experiences in an entertaining way that will be appreciated by all who love "the high lonesome" places.

Jack Ward Thomas was head of the Forest Service during the Clinton administration
This is the second copy I have purchased having lent the other to someone. Dr. Thomas was the first wildlifebiologist tho head the service and was vilified by the usual for his position on Spotted Owls as well as not being a treefarm guy.
