Nice compact feeder, well made, easy to use
The media could not be loaded. Great little product to help in feeding my fish. I got this more for the times when I will be gone from home for more than a few hours. I raise cichlids, and you don't want them to be hungry because they will bite each other. I use small pellet cichlid food, and it works well in this feeder. It was a littler tricky putting the feed holder back onto the timer unit, but patience paid off. It fit perfect on the side of my tank. It holds tightly against the side of the tank. It has an adjustment for how much food it dispenses. It does not dispense the exact amount of food each time, but that is to be expected, and my fish don't seem to mind a little extra food. The time and timer were easy to setup. I am very happy with the purchase of this automatic feeder. It is just what I needed. I have 3 tanks currently, and another to be setup soon. I will be buying feeders for each of them.

Works extremly well except for very large ponds or tanks. Instructions are terrible and figure some hours learning how to set i
This works very well. It also can be used with flakes which many cannot handles. It is unobtrusive and can be placed in an out of the way place. It is "dose oriented" which makes it easy to control the feeding -- each revolution of the drum provides 1 unit (dose) of food. And there is an option to have 1 or 2 doses with each feeding. I would have liked the ability to go up to 4 or 5 as the limit of 2 works extremely well for small ponds or water features or tanks. But for larger fish or larger tanks, ponds, it is not enough. I am using with 16 fancy goldfish that range from 9 inches to 1.5 inches and the 2 rotations are just enough. It can be programmed for up to 4 feedings a day with all kinds of ways to do every other day or any schedule you might wantI would have given 5 stars were it not for the lack of decent instructions on how to set the feeding times, dosages etc. I am a computer programmer and After two hours I could not figure it out from the instructions. My wife who is smarter than I am spend 3 hours and with a lot of trial and error finally figured it out. It is actually quite easy once you know what to do. It took less than 5 minutes to set up a very complex feeding plan AFTER you have figured it out. The instructions are terrible. One thing I would have liked to know is how long the batteries will last. The major energy draw is each rotation of the drum, so it would be quite easy to report the average number of doses that we could get from a single battery. I personally would also like to have a power socket so I do not have to use the batteries but can plug in a 3 volt transformer. The price is excellent for what you get here IF you don't count the time you will spend figuring out how to set the values. If you do count that, it costs hundreds of dollars and even more. In contrast, I do not know how good the instructions are for other models. They all seem to be made in China

Does not dispense the same amount of food each time
I made the mistake and didn't look carefully enough that this only feeds small pellets. So I went and bought small pellets. Then I tried putting it on my fish tank. I have a little lip, maybe 1/4 inch then a part that sticks out to hold the aquarium light. There is no way this will fit on. I tried to use the velcro tape pieces they give and it still wouldn't work. It actually fell into the water. I figured I could get it to stay on the tank, so I filled it with food. It was a big pain to put the food container back onto the timer section. It only goes on one way (which makes sense) but it is hard to put on without hitting the timer settings. Once I got the food on, I wanted to test to see how much food would dispense. The first go around (and I kept retrying and refilling and retrying), I always got a handful of food which was way too much for the turtles. Subsequent turns gave varying amounts of food from almost none to way too much. I never knew how much food was going to be dispensed. I packed it up and am sending it back.

SAVED HAVING TO ASK FOR A HELPER WHILST AWAY!
A bit complicated to set up - but once done this is brililant! Only because I hate reading instructions - this piece of kit you do have to read them. We have just come back after a 2 wk trip expecting our Betta Fish to be dead - doubting this would actually work - to find them alive! I had to play around so that it would only give a tiny bit of food - so stick with it if you want less than it gives when you test it. We set ours for x2 a day (9am and 8pm). So happy we found this. Only negative I would say is that I wish it had an off button. You have to either reset it for 0 x a day, or take out the batteries - but that is minor - it kept our fish alive and that's what we purchased it for. It did its job perfectly. Do make sure that the arrow(s) are displayed when the time comes on, if they don't, it won't work. I luckily discovered this when my test wasn't working, even though I had gone through the process of setting the timer. Used it now twice - one 2 wk holiday, one 1 wk holiday - all a success.

Not effective
Got the feeder and opened the instructions. The battery compartment is not the same that is displayed and explained in the instructions. The rotating portion where you choose the amount of feed only works if using pellet and not flakes or a combination. Mine is set to Max and I barely have any come out.I do not suggest this to anyone hoping to take some ease off daily feedings for the fish.

Okay for short vacations
I bought this automatic feeder to feed my 5 goldfish in my 50 gallon tank while I was away at college. It was easy to set up and worked just fine the first couple of weeks. I needed to refill it about every 2 weeks, while it was working. After a couple of weeks the lever that controls the amount of food being released got loose, so it started dropping large amounts of food. The food would also get very humid and moist so it would stick together. Either all the food came out or none of it did. Eventually, I gave up on this feeder and asked someone to feed my fish instead. I would recommend this if you're going on a short trip, but definitely not if you need it for over a month.
