Very Nice
I purchased this about 6 months ago and its very very nice for the money... Getting the nipple thru the wall to the drop ear elbow and reaching the exact depth for the cast elbow to mount to was the hardest thing, but not a big deal. If I remember correctly You need about 1 1/2 inch past all wall material, tile etc...I think I needed a total of 3 1/2 in nipple to fit perfectly, too long and the cover wont reach the wall, too short and the hose attachment will not be able to fit on the lower threaded part of the cast elbow easily. See there is a cutout on the bottom of the cover that the pipe exits from that a hose gets attached to, there is some leeway as the cutout is more oval giving room front and back as needed... There is a rubber gasket that fits in a channel on the backside that prevents water from getting behind the wall. It is all plastic so don't expect chrome brass, but the shine is flawless. Its easily installed, the front has a cap with a o-ring that comes off, after the actual cast elbow piping is threaded on to the nipple coming out of the wall, it has a mounting hole on it that inside the plastic cover a screw goes thru a tab in the cover and into the pipe securing the escution to the wall securely, Then the cap snaps back on, no chance it will fall off as it has a very snug fit. Considering the price this was well worth it, yea its all plastic but who really cares looking at it you would never tell, after 6 months its perfectly clean, no water spots, then again mine is set higher on the wall and doesn't come in direct contact with water. An excellent choice for the price and Grohe is considered among top of the line in plumbing products.

Don't worry that it is plastic - this is quality
Yes, the surrounding trim is plastic. All the plumbing connectors are top quality brass. By being plastic, you will never have to worry about rust like you would with cheap, chrome plated steel. The finish is an exact match to the Grohe chrome pieces, so you do not need to worry that it will look out of place when used with other Grohe chrome parts. I have had a slightly different model Grohe shower union for 6 years. It also is plastic. When I received it, I was surprised to find the cover was plastic. It remains in perfect condition. When I was changing out another shower this year I knew that I was going to use Grohe parts again, and did not hesitate to get this item. Actually, I would have been disappointed if I had to get this part with metal trim pieces. It is easy to install. It is large. Check the line drawing with dimensions available on the Grohe website if you are concerned about the size. Being large helps to ensure that it will cover whatever hole is in your wall for the pipe to penetrate. So, buy it and be glad the trim is plastic.

Nice looking wall elbow to attach a hand held shower. Easy to install to an existing pipe.
The kit contains a plastic cover which attaches to the elbow with a screw, the elbow itself and a strip of foam as a water seal. The elbow is very sturdy and heavily plated. The plastic cover, well, it's just plastic. Looks OK for the price (wish it was metal). The pipe that comes from the wall should stick out from the wall about half an inch but not more than 3/4 inch otherwise the cover will not pull down to the wall. It was very easy to install with an adjustable wrench and a screwdriver. Also, you do need some Teflon tape for the pipe threads.

Yes it is plastic and I usually don't like plastic hardware but this is a good exception
This is a well designed well made product. For instance--The nipple protrusion does not have to be exact for this down ell to tighten firmly to both the nipple and to tighten flush to the wall. Others don't have this very handy design. Yes it is plastic and I usually don't like plastic hardware but this is a good exception. Good chrome finish, and not flimsy.

Great design, easy fit and looks great.
German design and really good unit that allows the silver bright plastic shell to float to match tile level using the adjusting screw inside. Metal angle connector made hose connections solid. Cover cap snapped on to enclose screw. Simple looks, but really well designed and looks sharp in our shower. Great item. On first delivery unit came opened and without the angled connector - but Amazon Prime had a replace unit hand delivered to me within 48 hours! Way to go Aamazon Prime! Love you guys!

does a perfect job
It's the fourth of these that I buy, not because they break, because they're good enough that I put them in all bathrooms. It's undeniable that the chromed plastic, which is very light in the hand, will and is raising eyebrows for many. That's the way Grohe does it, and I too had many doubts. But as a long time user of Grohe products (plus one or two faucets from Hansgrohe), I can assure you that this surface treatment stands the test of time. No dent, no scratch, no chrome peeling, none of these catastrophic scenarios has happened to me in 6 years. So I'm reviewing this guy to let the world know. It comes with great and clear instructions. no issue there either.

Female threads in the elbow are not pipe threads
I have a 1/2” male pipe thread brass nipple coming out of the wall. I can thread on other 1/2” female pipe thread fittings onto this nipple. However, I can’t turn the Grohe Elbow fitting more than 1/2 turn before encountering severe resistance. I returned the elbow I purchased from Amazon and purchased the same part from another source but had the same problem. I turned this elbow another half turn using leverage. It resulted in a piece of the brass thread coming off the brass nipple. Clearly it’s not pipe (tapered) thread despite the installation sheet showing 1/2” NPT. I’ve ordered an elbow directly from Grohe. If it has the same problem, I’ll have to use a pipe thread tap to properly form the female threads. Didn’t expect this from Grohe. On another Grohe part, I found a couple of mistakes in the installation instructions. I reported these to Grohe USA Support. The support agent told me that he didn’t have the power to request or recommend a change in the installation instructions. What happened to the voice of the customer? Grohe, if you are listening, please respond to this review so I can point out the mistakes. 2/23/2022 Update: I received two warranty replacements from Grohe but both had the same problem - they did not have 1/2" NPT female thread. So, like the originals, they were useless. Grohe was bought out by Lixil a few years ago. Since then, it appears their quality control and the quality of their customer service has suffered. Most Grohe reps I spoke with were more interested in telling me how great their products were instead of listening to me (the customer) and the specific problems I was facing with their products. I ended up using a wall union from a different brand. Doesn't match perfectly with other Grohe fixtures but it's close enough.

Misleading picture
The pictures doesn't match the product and give a completely misleading understanding of it. I was expecting it to be a one piece product, but turned to be far away from the expectations! A small elbow and a plastic cover! What a cheap thing! It is not worth the cost nor the purchase. I am considering returning it all and buy a different brand. I remember seeing the one in the picture at some places, but what was received is not the one.

Brilliant!
Easy to install, brass inside very well made, the outside cover is silver coated plastic but its ok. The screw inside didn't work, wouldn't go into the hole to fasten the silver cover to the brass fitting - I used a shorter electrical screw and that solved the problem. Works well and looks good.

Not cheap, but it’s the correct replacement
It works well and it’s the proper replacement for our Grohe shower unit.
