Second compilation of cult horror, a collection of films that were originally banned in the 1980s during the 'video nasty' scare. In Dario Argento's 'Tenebrae' (1982), Peter Neil (Anthony Franciosa) is a mystery writer in Rome to promote his new novel. His stay is disturbed by a crazed maniac who begins a terrifying murder spree, stuffing his victims' mouths with pages from Neils' books. In 'Dead and Buried' (1981), The sheriff of a New England fishing town (James Farentino) is perplexed by a series of strange and gruesome murders and becomes determined to solve the mystery. His investigations are complicated when the dead start coming back to life. In 'Evilspeak' (1981), at an American army base, a young cadet is subject to endless bullying. After discovering a black magic book in a secret temple beneath the base, he decides to gain revenge on his tormentors by using its dark secrets. In 'Don't Go Near the Park' (1981), two 12,000-year-old superhuman creatures, banned from their prehistoric tribe for using ritual cannibalism to prolong their lives, hope to recapture their eternal youth in modern Los Angeles by kidnapping and sacrificing a 16-year-old virgin. In 'The Witch Who Came From the Sea' (1975), a young woman who has spent years being sexually abused by her father takes out her frustrations on men by performing a series of horrific mutilation sex crimes.

Cinema exploitation history lessons
After the hoo-ha of the first box set, with distinctly cut films, here we have, a broad range (of quality & substance) of films from the releasing era when draconian laws were much in force in the uk.The films are a taster, an array of differing styles, not exactly the best releases ever to grace the market, but for the money here, you get 5 UNCUT films. They are uncut, that is, the BBFC has not tampered with them. They are not enfeebled or harmed by the censors..However, the titles are of interest to such a differing range of taste its hard to see who would best appreciate the entire strange arrangement. It is not unlike wandering into a 1980's video shop for a spare few hours of sampling the grubbier shelves:Tenebrae, an excellent more accessible Argento flick. Very violent, bloody and cutting. The soundtrack is driving and vivid.Evilspeak, an excellent gory piece of satanic hokum, of the period when computers were seen as the second coming..of what who knows..the little chap from 'Gentle Ben' is the lead loser/outsider and much hideous sticky latex is ruptured. Oh, and a mess of pigs do something unseemly with a gal in a shower. Always an appealing 80's charmer.Contamination, a daft but entertaining so called Alien rip off. It's more of an adventure film with sci-fi stylings popping in, where the show stops for people to explode horribly. It livens things up and keeps the interest, even if the jungle and traipsing all over the place for no logical reason or 'plot' can be trying unless one is intoxicated. Has a corking soundtrack that is probably on some mobile phones somewhere. Solid, but can try the patience.Witch Who Came from the Sea...excellent if you enjoy offbeat exploitation with a strangely feminist edge. The descent into madness is not engineered to be a gory affair but has a graceful sordid atmosphere not unlike a Messiah of Evil or perhaps Night Tide. Not one for all tastes as it is rather occasioned by arty camera-work and demands you feel for the lead gal quite rightly, but will make some queasy at her mental deterioration. This is the trump of the box set, in that it was at the time a rare item especially uncut and in bright quality.Don't Go Near the Park...poor, appallingly made film. Even if you enjoy bad movies, this tries the patience as few others. The gory parts are weakly constructed, but the bad acting and make-up combines to make the mad plot involving time-travel & other weirdness, even more confusing. Watch once perhaps, may leave an aftertaste, not unlike licking tarmac.
