Works out of the box. Appears well designed and made. Does make a faint buzzing noise, hopefully won't prevent the cat from using it. Water is slightly warm, not hot which is good. Not cold enough outside yet to see how well it really works.

This past summer I noticed that there are a lot of feral cats in my neighborhood. Being a cat person, I am not about to let them starve, so I was looking for a good outdoor water bowl. I wanted a bowl that I could bring inside without having to bring the whole base in with it. I love that this has stainless steel bowls that I can bring in and wash and put fresh water in it. I will keep dry food in the second bowl. I also appreciate the cord is chew proof. The cats that come around don't seem to bother too much stuff I have outside as they are just looking for food or shelter, but the cord gives me more piece of mind. I also appreciate that I can use an extension cord with this bowl as I will need to run it to an outlet that is a ways away from where I plan to locate this bowl. This bowl set was well thought out.Having bowls that I can pick up and bring in the house, but leave the heater behind is perfect! Now that I have been feeding the feral cats, I have found that there are really a lot more than I thought there were. They all come running now when they see me outside and some are starting to trust me. It has taken quite a while for some of them to trust me, and some still don't, but it is a work in progress. I just want to make sure they are taken care of, and this bowl will ensure that they are getting fresh food and water every day. This bowl set is a big win for me and the kittys.

I recently discovered a feral cat in my barn … with kittens ! I was able to catch the kittens and find them good indoor homes. I also trapped the momma cat and had her spayed and vaccinated . She is slowly warming up to me and though still shy…she will let me touch her now.I guess that means she is my cat now LOL! I want to make sure she has everything she needs for the winter ahead since I don’t think she is ready to be a house cat…..yet.She will have shelter and food . I am happy that I found this heated double cat bowl for her. It is well made and works great . Granted it’s not cold out but I put a couple of ice cubes in it to see if it would melt them . It did . I tried using my kitchen thermometer to see what the temp inside the plugged in bowl came up to and it’s said 80* f. So not hot but warm. Note that this is inside my house , so not dead if winter outdoors in my barn.The bowls are pretty big for a cat but, eh…they will be fine . This would work for an outdoor dog as well. Just mind that it doesn’t chew the cord.The cord is safety wrapped and quite long. I didn’t measure it but probably 6 ft. It does say it can be used with an extension cord if needed as long as it appropriate for the wattage of this bowl.I’m so happy to have come across this product . It’s well made and seems good and safe to use for a pet.The cost is reasonable .I know my feral girl ( and me ) will appreciate this heated cat bowl come winter. No breaking ice out of a bowl and a constant availability of fresh water for her .Very nice product . Would recommend !

What I received didn't appear as new based on the lack of packaging but if it works then that kind of makes up for it. There seems to be no switch but all you do is fill the bowls and plug in based on the directions which is probably so no rain or water outdoors can short it out. Once I've used for awhile then I'll give and update and revise the 3 stars. Or if it was returned for it being defective and they sent it out that way then it'll adjust to 1 star and be returned since I have time to base it on the quality. I really want this to work so fingers crossed.

This feeder seems of nice quality. We still are not into freezing temps so I have no experience with low temps but I see no reason why it won't work as described, judging from the units quality.

Keeps the water from completely freezing over. Compact in size.

I like that this bowl doesn't let water freeze in the winter time. I wish it was a little bit bigger, but I will just refresh their food and water more often. In the winter time, their water freezes quickly. So this is going to be a lifesaver for the cats. I like how easy it is to clean, and it looks very nice.

I GOT THIS FOR MY TWO OUTSIDE CATS. I KEEP THEM IN A SMALL ROOM, WITH A WARM PLACE TO STAY IN THE WINTER. THEY HAVE BEDS, LITERPANS, DRY FOOD BOWLS/WATER PAN. WHEN I SAW THIS HEATED TWIN BOWL SET, I KNEW IT WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THEY WILL HAVE WATER AND NOT ICE, WARM FOOD WHICH WILL MAKE THE SLEEP GOOD AT NITE.
