A short Christmas Comedy worth reading during any week of the year.
I lost count as to how many of this book I have purchased over the years to give as gifts to people who I know will enjoy a fast book of Christian humor. And it's a Christmas book too, but can be read and enjoyed in any month. A real Indiana Quaker minister writes the story of a fictional Quaker minister in a fictional Hoosier small town and the antics of the congregation. The Harmony series is worth a read, and then a second read. This is the first of two Christmas novellas that were published in relationship with the series. Both are great. I call this one a Christmas classic.A church member gets the idea of turning the church live nativity scene into a traveling view-able scene, on the same plan as a progressive dinner. One portion per site. The concept is crazy, and the writing is superb. Even after reading it over again, several years, it continues to make me laugh out loud. Highly recommended. And it's not going to hurt any Christian feelings. You'll probably see some of your own church members characteristics appearing in the Harmony Friends church. I did.I make reading this story as much a part of every Christmas as I do re-watching a DVD version of Dickens' Christmas Carol.

HAD TO UPDATE MY REVIEW - TAKE NOTE FELLOW CHRISTIANS!!!
This book will appeal to Christians. This author's humor is perfect for me and a clean read overall, nothing to feel guilty about. This is a part of a series. You just read my review above from the past about this book which is part of a series. I was still in the middle of this series when I wrote the review. Now that I have completed the series I, unfortunately, have to say that while this started off really well, it ended with the author taking on a progressive Christian viewpoint which I am against. I absolutely will not support compromising God's word. Sorry if anyone decided to read this because of my review. It's too bad because this author has a wonderful, simplistic and humorous writing style, BUT it's not being used to God's glory.

A Delightful Find!
I came across this book in a batch of books given to our department when our university president was retiring and downsizing. I love it! It is funny and homespun and happily reminds me of the Mitford series by Jan Karon. The writer is a Quaker minister and has a down-to-earth writing style. I gave several of these as Christmas gifts to others, and then I got the other books from the Harmony series from the local library and have enjoyed them as well. This is a small gift-size book, whereas the others in the series are "regular" size.

Good book
The whole Harmony series is very enjoyable, and it among my favorite in the fiction genre. They are all light-hearted and full of wonderful and entertaining characters. The books follow Sam, a pastor in a small-town Quaker church, and the eclectic group of individuals who are members. You will likely find yourself laughing out loud at the antics of Dale, as he undertakes his scripture-egg project or his salvation balloons. Fern Hampton may drive you nuts, but you'll learn to love her. I will say that this one is shorter than all the rest, and didn't leave me quite as fulfilled. Many reviewers compared this to the Mitford series, reading this one because they enjoyed the Mitford series so much. I tried reading the series after this one, and found it dry and dull. These books are easy, pleasant and clean reads. Enjoy!

Another Harmony book well worth the read
All of his books evoke a life so different than the big city I've almost always lived in. Though his congregation isn't one that meets in full silence and unprogramed as is what most people think of when they think of Quaker, the Quaker spirit is mostly found in the way his flock relates to each other. His homy insights into the way people work and how the heart works is a joy I find in each of his books. I'll add that his nonfiction books are wonderful as well. They are full of the kind of joy and hope you would expect from someone who writes such lovely fiction.

Now...a family tradition
We have started reading this book as a family tradition. My children love it and laugh along with me. On one hand, it is slapstick comedy capturing people at their zaniest. (However, if you have ever worked at a church it isn't really that far off in some cases.) On the other hand, the irony of what is overlooked in the progressive nativity is so very true, and the last scene where Sam reads the Christmas story in Luke to Frank is one of my favorite Christmas scenes in any book. Though I have been disappointed in some of Philip Gulley's later work after leaving Multnomah Publishing. This is a gem for the ages.

I have read Phillip Gulley before and I like his books
I have read Phillip Gulley before and I like his books.. Christmas in Harmony is a good, old fashion Christmans story and it brought back wonderful memories of when I was growing up and Christmas. The Nativity setting is different from any I have experienced.

Great Book
Good shape and will be a good read for Christmas. I am sure it will be typical of Gulley's writing.
