Excellent
Excellent resource on the twins, especially since there is not much available. It is, however, not very long. It would be great to someday have a thick, retrospective type art book that went through their work sequentially and had dedicated chapters on each film. A major undertaking, I know. Until then, this book is a good introduction.

Quay-zy.
This is a book published by MoMA to compliment the exhibition that took place August 12, 2012 - January 7, 2013. I foolishly found out about it too late, and am only left with this book as a reminder of the glory of what I missed. There is a fantastic wealth of knowledge about the Brothers Quay in this book. As the book reminds you (several times) it is hard to get deeper into the magic and the madness behind their work, and moreso to be allowed a glimpse into their personal lives. Even as I have been an admirer of their work for several years, new information was given to me in this book as to some of their early influences and background growing up. If you have minimal knowledge of the Quays, then some of that will be reiterated in these pages. But, for example, I did not know of specific influences that are referenced such as their admiration for the candor and honesty contained within Polish posters, issues of Scientific American, and pages from authors such as Franz Kafka. There are a wealth of images in the side columns to give context to what is written, and correlations can be made immediately. Incredible. There are a couple introductions and a couple longer essays written about the Brothers, both are well written and do not spend too much time with regurgitation and citing their works, but instead speaks of the work thematically or how their work correlates to their influences and the modern world. There is also a transcript from an interview given by an apparent non-existent person from the past who travelled through time in order to interview the Quays. Beautifully designed, but also a testament to the Quays' madness. Still, there is an admission of mystery as even the greatest literary and art theorists can not totally understand the Quays' intentions. Perhaps it is better this way. Nevertheless, the insight given is very intriguing and intelligent.A little over the last half of the book is dedicated to images, presumably work that was shown as part of the exhibit. I can tell you after viewing these images and reading about the Quays, I am incredibly upset that I completely missed the exhibit and failed to obtain any knowledge of its existence. I highly recommend this invaluable book for everyone interested in any type of animation, illustration, experimental film and of course admirers of the Quays' work.

Finally, a catalogue for the Brothers Quay
I've been following the imagery and films of this fantastic duo for decades and finally they get the type of treatment at the MoMA I think they've deserved. A retrospective of the 40 years they've been creating, in print, film, type. I wish I had the chance to see their work live, but this is the next best thing. Although a rather short book on their efforts, it nevertheless brings to the public eye the huge range of work and diversity of their talents to the general public. Get it while you can. Exhibition catalogues have a tendency of selling out very quickly.
