you want your audience to see the logo, so it goes toward the neck. you'll like this strap. it gets more supple with use. very nice. rock on.

What is the small leather string on the strap used for?

The small leather string is used when a guitar doesn't have a strap button. As far as I know, all Taylor guitars come standard with strap buttons installed from the factory. However, not all acoustics do. With such a guitar, you would use the leather string to tie the strap to the headstock above the nut under the strings.

Is it 2.5 in throughout the whole strap or does it have a part that weaves through that's real skinny?

Probably 3/4th of the strap is 2.5 inches, then there is a skinnier piece which is adjustable , maybe 1 inch, that weaves through one end.

Is it full suede as pictured?

Yes, it is full suede. It is a great strap and well worth the price.
