You know how when you hand sew, the thread often gets tangled, snarled, or knotted up? Beeswax can prevent this from happening! After you thread your needle and knot the thread, pull the thread through the wax several times, until it feels a bit like dental floss. Fold the thread into a scrap of muslin and press it with a warm iron. This melts the wax, fusing it with the thread. The result is stronger, stiffer thread, which is much less likely to give you problems. After trying this and seeing the difference it makes, I now refuse to hand sew without waxing my thread first. It takes an extra few minutes, but it's absolutely worth it.Note that this is actually a REFILL, so you'll need to buy regular version first. The regular beeswax comes in a round plastic cartridge with slits in the top and bottom. Pull the thread through the slits, so it cuts into the wax, coating the thread. You can open the container to rotate the wax, and once it's completely unusable, buy this refill to replace the wax.Just be cautious about ordering beeswax in the summertime! When I ordered mine in May, it arrived soft and had clearly melted in its package en route. It didn't hurt anything---I left it in an air-conditioned room until it hardened again. It kept its shape, so no harm was done. But if it got really hot in the back of a UPS truck, the wax might melt completely, in which case it wouldn't fit into the cartridge.Five stars and strongly recommended for anyone who sews.

(1) I always do hand sewing with this thread wax! It keeps thread from twisting up and misbehaving. Sewing WITHOUT thread wax is a nightmare. Sewing with it the thread is easy to control and makes consistently good stitches.(2) Because the wax can dry out over time when not in use, I store it in a small plastic container to keep the wax fresh. Works best that way.

I bought this because I have been hand sewing with a ton of really old, vintage thread. It was getting all tangled up and tying itself into knots but I didn't want to buy new thread. This worked! My thread hardly ever tabgles or gets tied up randomly anymore!

My old beeswax just like this one was nearly 40 years old. I know, I know, “but they found beeswax in Cleopatra’s tomb and it was still good,” but mine had seriously dried out. I read a tip after my old eyeballs started seriously straining to thread needles. The tip was to run the end of your thread across some beeswax before you try to thread a needle. Ohhh, that had to be the best sewing tip EVER, and I have sewn a lot in my lifetime. I am thankful for that tip every single time I sit down to sew.

Un ottimo trucco per evitare che il filo si annodi durante il cucito. Le dimensioni sono ottime per l’utilizzo e l’involucro di plastica rende velocissimo il passaggio del filo!

Wachsen ist die einfachste Methode ein Garn, das sich beim Nähen oder Sticken schillerlockenmäßig aufrollt, zu bändigen. Die Plastikhalterung ist prima; da kann man das Garn vorm Verarbeiten einfach an den Ausparungen durchziehen. Das Garnwachs kam jetzt direkt aus Amerika, dafür war es schnell da. Trotzdem frag ich mich, warum es keine Angebote zumindest aus Europa gibt, geschweige Deutschland.
