From the moment I picked up this book I could not put it down. The story is beautiful and made me change the way I viewed life. Honestly. Life is short so don’t be afraid to act or speak up. The ending sent me on an emotional roller coaster. I once had my own Dexter and it was a similar relationship. So this books tugged at my heart strings and left me in my feels for quite some time.

Absolutely love this movie. Feel good romcom. Anytime Anne Hathaway is in a movie. It’s a good one. Nick Galitzine is fantastic. This movie allows if you were to respect older women femininity.

I wanted a different ending…

This movie had me invested from the beginning. The acting, plot, and filming is done so impeccably it was altogether disappointing when over. Not to mention it had my husband hooked which is saying A LOT.Highly recommend for your next couple movie night!

I watched this 2011 version of One Day after I watched the new 14 episode version on Netflix. It really isn't a fair comparison between the 2011 movie to the 14 episode 2024 version since there was so much more film to really get everything that happened on film. I have watched the 2024 version several times now and is so close to the original book. I read the book after watching both films. Such a beautiful, sad story.

This music soundtrack (Rachel Portman) with so many great songs from 'Elvis Costello', 'Fatboy Slim', and 'Tears For Fears', lends so much to the movie. It is as diverse as the two lead characters can be. Directed by Lone Scherfig (An Education), from the novel and screenplay written by David Nicholls, who always adds a great mix of music to her movies. We meet Emma (Anne Hathaway) and Dexter-"Dex" (Jim Sturgess) on the night of their graduation from their University in England. This is the night in which this unlikely couple gets together on the 15th of July, 1988. The time spent is full of awkwardness, so much so it is palpable to the viewer. They are so uncomfortable with each other until the point of resignation to remain platonic. At the time it is a good idea for the both of them although can it remain this way? A different sort of romantic film where we watch these two growing up into their adult lives and carving out their places in the world. Riddled with some twists and turns that are unexpected and then finessed making this not your usual fare. The friendship spans lofty decades during which the two faithfully get together every "One Day" of each and every year. This day always being July 15th, The Anniversary of Them.Emma being the more scholastic type with a well-rounded disposition, has a razor sharp wit and is very caring. Dex continues being more the extrovert with his dalliances with women and self-destructive behaviors. Something intangible remains with these two from that first night together, each intrigued with the other as he and she heads off in separate directions to lead their own lives continuing on until reaching July 15th once again. Dex takes a much more worldly approach to his employment, although briefly taking a position as an English teacher then quickly changing his course towards fame to the disapproval of his parents (his mother, portrayed by the always wonderful Patricia Clarkson, is more understanding of her son). Emma works in a dead-end job at a Tex-Mex restaurant where she meets her boyfriend, Ian Whitehead (Rafe Spall). Through thick and thin Dex and Emma carve out their lives during many years of pitfalls and meetings with each other while never losing track of the other. The timing never seems right for them to become a couple although the subject is flirted with every year, the 'what ifs' or 'the maybes'. They help each other as much as hurt themselves by hiding their feelings. Could their relationship be that one special love of a lifetime? Should they take that gamble?This movie has been classed in the Romantic Comedy genre, although I maybe snickered a couple of times because of Emma's quick razor-sharp retorts and sharp wit she does have a large store of. I would definitely say this is a drama containing lots of romantic leanings, loving gestures, and a total sweeping of 'opposites attract' that carries this couple along through the years. The whole premise of meeting every year on the anniversary date of their first meeting is overtly romantic. A subjective romantic movie, thus the scattered reviews from "I hate it" to "I love it". I'll take the latter.

Im Gegensatz zu manch anderen RezensentenInnen finde ich die Verfilmung "Zwei an einem Tag" sehr gelungen. Es ist natürlich immer sehr schwierig einen Handlungsrahmen, der sich über mehrere Jahre hinzieht, in einem Film mit ca. 103 Minuten zu packen. Trotzdem finde ich es persönlich sehr gelungen, da die wichtigsten Schlüsselszenen darin enthalten sind. Vor allem die schauspielerischen Leistungen von Anne Hathaway, Jim Sturgess und Romola Garai sind meiner Meinung nach einfach genial.Kurz zum Inhalt (obwohl schon viel darüber geschrieben wurde):Nach der Examensfeier am 15. Juli 1988 kommen die zurückhaltende Emma, die schon lange in den umschwärmten Dexter verliebt ist, zusammen und verbringen die Nacht zusammen - allerdings nicht so, wie sich das Dexter zunächst vorgestellt hat. Auch den darauffolgenden Tag sind die beiden noch zusammen und nun bereit, das nachzuholen, was in der Nacht zuvor nicht passiert ist... Da laufen sie Dexters Eltern in die Arme.Nun erleben wir die darauffolgenden Jahrestage (15. Juli) der Beiden... Emma, die mittlerweile ihre literarischen und jounalistischen Träume begraben hat und in einem mexikanischen Billig-Restaurant arbeitet und Dexter, der eine steile Karriere als Moderator einer hippigen Sendung macht.Mittlerweile sind die beiden beste Freunde im platonischen Sinn und der 15. Juli ist "ihr gemeinsamer Tag"!Allerdings ändert sich im Laufe der Jahre einiges: Während Emma ihr Leben endlich in die Hand nimmt und ihrer inneren Berufung folgt, geht es bei Dexter eher bergab... und Emma beschließt nun endlich, nach etlichen Enttäuschungen, Dexter aus ihrem Leben zu streichen...Werden die Beiden noch eine gemeinsame Zukunft haben?Mehr möchte ich nicht verraten.Mich hat der Film so sehr bewegt, dass ich mir daraufhin das Buch gekauft habe. Und obwohl das Buch natürlich viel ausführlicher ist und der Film auch die ein oder andere Szene anders darstellt, kann ich auch den Film wärmstens empfehlen!

Story (4)Etwas eingeschüchtert durch all die schlechten Rezensionen zu diesem Film, machte ich mich an die Besichtigung desselben und war angenehm überrascht über das dargebotene…Eine Liebesgeschichte in Form einer Tragikkomödie, die sich wohltuend abhebt von den 0815-Kitsch-Liebesfilmen, wie wir es normalerweise von Hollywood vorgesetzt bekommen.Da gibt es richtig gute und witzige Dialoge, eine zwar episodenhafte Story aber wie sollte man eine Geschichte, die sich über einen derart langen Zeitraum hinzieht, in einem normalen Spielfilm denn sonst unterbringen ohne den Zuschauer mit Handlung zu erschlagen. Ein bisschen selber denken bzw. Handlungen verknüpfen hat durchaus auch seinen Reiz.Auch die schauspielerische Leistung hat mir durchwegs gut gefallen. Ok, Anne Hathaway ist nicht Julia Roberts und Jim Sturgess weiss Gott nicht Richard Gere - aber Hallo wer ist das schon?Über das gewählte Ende des Streifens kann man geteilter Meinung sein. Da es aber nun mal eine Romanverfilmung ist und der Autor das Drehbuch höchst persönlich verfasst hat, erübrigt sich die Diskussion darüber auch schon wieder.Bild (4)Das Bildseitenverhältnis liegt in 2.35:1 ( 21:9 CinemaScope ) vor.Die Grundschärfe ist über den ganzen Film hinweg auf einem sehr guten Niveau. Auch die Kontraste und der Schwarzwert sind im guten Bereich. Einzig bei dunklen Aufnahmen ist zum Teil ein leichtes grießeln zu sehen, das aber sehr dezent ist und kaum stört.Es wurden recht starke Filter eingesetzt, was das Bild bzw. die Farben etwas künstlich wirken lassen. Grundsätzlich eine gute HD-Umsetzung.Ton (5)Das Tonformat liegt in DTS-HD Master 5.1 vorBeim Ton wurde alles richtig gemacht. Die Dialoge sind jeder Zeit ausgezeichnet zu verstehen. Die Surround-Lautsprecher werden konstant und gut ins Geschehen eingebettet, so dass eine richtig gute Räumlichkeit aufkommt. Auch die sehr gute Filmmusik unterstützt diesen Eindruck noch zusätzlich. Die Tondynamik ist hervorragend, das fällt vor allem während der Disco-Szene auf. Die ganze Balance ist äussert ausgewogen und stimmig.Tonmässig für mich auf Referenz-Niveau.Extras (3)Interessieren mich nicht. Es gibt ein Wende-Cover!Fazit: Eine etwas andere "Liebesgeschichte", die sich wohltuend von üblichen Mainstream-Schnulzen abhebt. Gutes Unterhaltungs-Kino eben, das zusammen mit der sehr guten Blu-ray-Umsetzung ein geeigneter Streifen für zwischendurch ist. Kann ich weiterempfehlen!
