Amway: The Cult of Free Enterprise

THIS BOOK IS SO TRUE MY JAW HURT FROM DROPPING
My jaw dropped each time I read verbatim lines and phrases I'd heard come from our former upline's mouths. My husband was recruited into Amway by his friend just under a year ago and by the time myself and another actually had to have an intervention to to show him how much $ we were spending on "the business," he'd lost almost 30,000, we were two months behind on our mortgage, and the bank manager came knocking at our door, ready to repossess is Jeep. He made his final decision to get out of Amway when he heard that his friend who'd recruited him had lost almost 200,000, been evicted and lost all the family's possessions, and is now destitute. ALL OF THIS is covered in this book, how it happens, why, how the uplines suck you in and groom you in the beginning, then ignore you if you don't conform, etc., how the literal brainwashing takes place through the audio cds and the numerous rallies and other functions. I recommend this book for anyone either thinking of joining Amway, or anyone who may already be an IBO and is thinking of quittting, or, for the spouse who feels helpless as they wat h their spouse's addiction to this cult ruin their family and marriage.

It was like reading a bio against a school they dropped out of
Ive seen successful people in it and I've seen people drop out. This book talks about those that dropped out. Didn't agree with the author.

Great information
Great information on a company some people regard as a well known home business. Little do people realize that like many of these so called home businesses Amway and all are nothing more than a white collar cult. People are persuaded to joining, purchasing the products and recruit others to do the same; all with the high hopes of becoming wealthy doing it. The late Stephen Butterfield, tells all in this book based on his experience as an Amway distributor. After reading this book, you will that Amway, et. al, are all con games and the only wealthy ones are the ones who created the so called businesses. You realize that they are all the same, a pyramid scheme. A must read.

Amway a cult? Absolutely.
Even though it was an older book, it was very informative and still relevant. I have a family member that has all but disappeared because of his association with Amway. If you're not pushing the plan, you are regarded as "losers" and "sheep." I question any MLM that encourages people to abandon ties to friends and family.

EXCELLENT COVERAGE OF A TOUCHY TOPIC
Excellent book. Well written. I learned a lot. Could not put it down. If you have a loved one mixed up in the cult of Amway or Quixstar, this will help you understand them and possibly help them get out.

wha????
Look, I'm a skeptic of the Amway business, not in a negative sense, but in a "I"m trying to understand everything" sense. And I think this book has holes in its approach.I get all the points about people losing money, investing time, maybe not getting much out of it and all that jazz, but how does that differ from the college kid who takes out $80000 in loans to go to Columbia University, to end up with squat after 6 years of my life gone and two pieces of paper living with my parents who also have degrees and their own debt, and still have to take care of me? Or the guy who buys a mom and pop shop with a big loan and then shuts down after 2 years because he couldn't hack it?I also can't get with demonizing them because they "get together". You mean to tell me 100k people at a friggin soccer game screaming their guts out is ok, but a business seminar isn't???How does anyone account for the individual? What about the guy who gets in and smokes this thing in a short period of time? I think it's worth knowing what they know. Everyone knows it's not pure dumb luck. and 55 years and $12B annually, this doesn't do a good job in explaining how that's still happening. I would take this book more seriously if someone broke down an example of Amway reneging on an aspect of their sales and marketing plan. I have yet to hear that. I'm not interested in personal ego's getting mashed because of personal stuff. I want to hear "I built a significant business according to the plan and they didn't pay me". Someone please break this thing down for real so i can understand.

What this book is saying is true.
Amway is incredibly damaging. It fits the definition of a cult. Stay away!
