Tornado Alert (Let's-Read-and-Find-Out Science 2)

Mentions fatalities
Bought this for my five year old grandson who survived a tornado not long ago. He wouldn't mention what he went through until recently, then suddenly wanted to learn how a tornado is a part of the weather. I won't be showing him this book. I had second thoughts about the cover picture, but pages in the book that showed a town being destroyed with cars flying through the air, and the same with a train, were not what I was looking for. What was most disturbing was the mention of death tolls from specific events. The rest of the book's description of how a tornado forms, how they are detected, and how to stay safe was fine. I found the fatality info went a little overboard for a book for young readers especially if they've gone through a bad storm. Even if I tried to skip certain info while reading this book, my grandson would have been asking what it said. The pictures in the book are also a little dark and ominous like the cover. My kids loved reading rainbow when they were growing up, I thought this book would be worth a try. Maybe for a little older child who hasn't been up close to a real tornado.

I love the "Let's Read and Find Out" series
I love the "Let's Read and Find Out" series. We are using it to home school preschool science. The pictures are illustrated (no real photos of tornadoes) but the illustrations are realistic, conveying the danger of the storm but not too frightening for a four year old. The book explains facts about tornadoes and then goes on to explain to the child what he/she should do in the event of a tornado. As a companion to this book, we also read Tornadoes by Gail Gibbons (another favorite author of science books for small children).

A Real Hit
I bought this book from Amazon for my 5 year old grandson's birthday since he is really impressed with tornadoes. He had 30 friends at his party but when he opened our present, he wanted me to read the book to him immediately. It made my husband and me feel wonderful to see a book be the hit of the birthday party. It was very age appropriate too so he understood all of it.

Great illustrated book
I bought this for my 3 1/2 year old because he is fascinated with tornadoes. The illustrations were great and the descriptions were basic enough that he could understand them. He was able to follow along and look at the pictures as well as ask questions about them. Though not as indepth as some of the other tornado books I have reviewed, it's still a very nice book. It also gives great information on what to do if a tornado strikes.

Tornadoes
My son loves tornadoes so I got this book for his birthday. He is also learning to read and loves to read this book to himself. I love that since he is learning about Tornadoes and also how to read words that he wouldn't otherwise have the chance to learn at this age.

Great Book
This was a great book for my 5 year old that has a fascination with tornados. Factual, and safety focussed, but not too scary. We'd picked a couple of other books about tornados but found most of them had 1 or 2 pages on tornados and the rest on other types of weather events. I'd definately recommend this book for someone who has a child who is interested in them and likes to be prepared!

Great book for kids!
My son is fascinated with weather, especially tornadoes. A family member lost her house to a tornado over the summer, and my son started playing tornado (not understanding the seriousness of it all). This book was excellent at giving him a better understanding of tornadoes, the danger involved, and what we need to do to stay safe.
