Gin, 70 cl

I saw the HB'ers on the telly doing some flavours of the Med or whatever, this episode had them in Menorca - once a stronghold of the Royal Navy from 1703 to 1781 when Spain took control of the island - gin was made on the island during the British occupancy, mainly to supply the large number of sailors with drink whilst ashore - gin being the favoured spirit at the time. 150 years later, Xoriguer came about and it's been made the same way since, the recipe being a secret, anyway, the Hairy Bikers were drinking this and I thought, why not, got a bottle and I like it. I have been to Menorca, recently, it's more than half the price there and they tip you big measures in the bars etc. They also knock up a drink called Pomada with it during the festivals, like a gin and bitter lemon slushy - it's delicious. A nice, aromatic gin, easy drinking and great for summers and hot days. 3 stars for VFM purely because I was paying 12 Euros for a bottle in Mahon - and for the price that this is here, you can purchase a better quality gin for less.

I bought this after reminiscing with friends about a holiday we took to Menorca 20 years ago. We had gone to a distillery on a day trip. Neither my husband nor I are gin drinkers, however the Menorcan gin and flavoured gins are so tasty. Unfortunately some of out bottles did not make it back from Menorca so all we had were memories (particularly of the orange gin and the coffee one too) So after all that!!! Because we now live in a world where we can have just about anything delivered to us at our fingertips. I set about chasing memories. I bought this bottle and had high hopes and I was not disappointed. This is a zesty gin, best served over ice, we had ours with tonic, something I was told many years ago is that there is no such thing as a bad gin just a bad tonic, well that's rubbish, we had tonic from Aldi and our drinks were fab. Plenty ice and a splash of tonic. you could add a slice of lemon and you have a lovely refreshing drink. Enjoy.

Great flavour profile, I found it best to mix with Feavertree lemon tonic water.

My partner is a gin lover and I heard great stories about this brand (read it on google). I purchased the item for a birthday gift and he didn’t come up for air for a few days….suffice to say he enjoyed it!!!

Now I know Gin has become fashionable with new varieties of gin being made almost everywhere but this is not new and it remains the most interesting, enjoyable, flavoursome gin I have tasted. That is regardless of where it has been purchased. (Sorry Amazon) However, with next day delivery without the need to leave the house ... The only problem is that it is an expensive Gin matching the prices of the new fashionable gins.
