This book was required reading for my 1L Legal Reading and Writing course. Legal writing is much different from any writing I had previously done. This book was great in explaining the principles of legal writing and how to write a legal memo. It includes sample portions of a memo and step by step instructions. I frequently went back to the book when I had questions and found it very helpful.

I actually really enjoyed this book during my 1L year. It’s thorough and provides really great examples of how to begin analyzing and writing in legal formats. I preferred this book over others used throughout the course.

I teach legal writing to law students. This book walks students through the process of legal writing and "speaks" to them at their level. It breaks down the writing process into digestible steps. The authors include many examples of good legal writing. They also include examples of ineffective writing--teaching students what not to do. I highly recommend this book for students and new attorneys.

Although I am an incoming law student, this book provided some insight on how to write clear and concise, but, however I believe this book is more geared for recent law graduates or newly JD firm hires.

Likes: Excellent job done by the authors. Their explanations are simple and easy to apply.Dislikes: Check your books! My copy was defective and I didn't find out until my professor assigned a specific chapter. Part of the pages are upside down or missing entirely. Unfortunately because I only just found out, the return of exchange window has passed.
