GE Window Air Conditioner 5,000 BTU AC Unit for Small Spaces up to 150 sq ft with Manual Controls & 2 Cooling Modes, Easy Install Kit, White

This thing was a great buy. I have used it almost every day for two summers, and it continues to run smoothly. It easily cools my bedroom, bathroom, and large walk-in closet. It's small enough that I can install it by myself in the window. It is pretty quiet, and I'm not great at maintenance, but it's still keeps running effectively near the end of the second season. Normally I use it to supplement the central air conditioning in the rest of my house, because my master suite edition does not get great airflow, but it actually did a pretty good job earlier this summer, when the central air unit went out. My room was the hangout for those hot weeks in July, and this unit kept my room comfortable despite nearly 100° temperatures outside.

Works as should. Normal noise level for an air conditioner. Kinda priced high for how small . Cools only very small spaces

i think this is overall a solid unit, but has a few things that would definitely turn me away from it in the future i just needed a temporary ac for the summer since it reaches the 100s where im at. i think as a short term/temporary ac this is great, even with its flaws pros: -[air temp] keeps small room cool (even really chilly at night depending on the weather outside), so long as i keep it at around 7 all day and night -[weight and size] small unit and pretty light (i don't have a lot of upper body strength and i could install it), -[noise] not overwhelmingly loud/white noise esque cons: -[energy efficiency] really messes with my lighting. for some reason even as its cooling down outside, the ac freaks out and has to keep kicking on. it causes my lights to flicker and gets a bit louder then. -[air temp] when its below 7 on the dial, it is just warmer air. im not really sure why, because this happens even when its cooler out (60s- 70s and no sun/at night) -[noise] it still is relatively noisy. slightly louder than a fan on high and has this weird gritty noise at times. im a heavy sleeper and don't have to be in the room a lot so its not a big bother for me, but definitely could for other situations -[sizing/panels] with the way my window is, i cannot use the slides because they don't stretch all the way, and i cannot nail it into the window anywhere tldr; probably great if you work all day or are a college kid in desperate need of an ac. not great in some realms but gets the job done

We do not have central AC and so previously were relying on portable AC units. This went on sale recently so decided to just try this basic unit for a small room we had. The window is not large but this AC unit was able to fit. Cooling performance is significantly better than the portable AC unit. The prior 8000btu LG portable single-hose AC unit would struggle to take the temperature down from indoor 80-81 to 75-76. With the "temperature" between 5-7, I think the room gets down to 70-75 easily. Installation was easier than expected. It only weighs 35 lbs so I feel confident with the provided brackets that it will stay in place and won't mind taking it out in the winter. I do miss some smarter features like setting a timer, or a sleep mode to slowly let the temp rise while sleeping, but for the cost this was well worth it and I plan to just put it on a smart plug. It is not the quietest AC unit and I would say slightly quieter than the portable unit we had when directly in front of the unit. However with our bed not directly in front of the window, it's quieter around the sides since the compressor and fans are mostly outside. Great performance overall especially for the price! We are super happy with this.

This summer has been brutal! Isn't that what we say every year, though? But for real; my house doesn't have internal heating or air. We rely on window units to keep the house cool. When we moved into our house three years ago, we adopted several very old, very dirty, very used window units. I gotta say, they do NOT keep up with this midwestern heat. When it hits in the 90's, those units would not compete. I finally decided to get some new units. I got this unit for our bedroom since we spend a pretty good portion of time in there and the unit we had in there wasn't doing nearly enough. We also have our 6-month-old twins in a bassinet in our room right now. I need them to stay cool, as well. This unit is the perfect size, it fit into our window nicely, and it's honestly become the most reliable unit we have. It was quick and easy to install, especially considering we're on the second floor. It's not as quiet as I'd like it to be, but it actually provides a nice white noise which I think the babies like. We've all been sleeping much more comfortably now, and I'm grateful. I would highly recommend this unit for any small room you need to have cool.

It works great price was low and it's freezing cold easy to use . We had three 5000 BTU units our house was still staying 80 something degrees so I ordered this GE air conditioner 5000 BTUs it dropped the temperature in my house 10°. I could not believe the difference now I'm able to walk around my home and feel comfortable I will buy another one to replace the other air conditioners that I have that are not GE from now on I'll be buying three more GE air conditioners just like this one everything about it made me want to give it five stars and the black around it,well it came with the entire installation kit but my windows are huge old windows so I had to add cardboard and some tape around it just to get it to fit correctly that was my fault not ge's fault so I did that and I'm going to tell you something even without the tape if you do your measurements right it will look beautiful in your window and it will work like a dream now I don't know how it would work by itself but I'm guessing if it were in a room by itself and it were the only air conditioner it would be very nice and comfortable in that room cuz it works perfect in my home it dropped my house 10 degrees like I said I have three other air conditioners but just this air conditioner by itself dropped my living room 10°. So now I'm walking around in my house at 70° temperature I am so happy with this product thank you ge and Amazon.

Cools pretty fast! High cool is identical to low cool, though, but I always have high cool, then have it for an hour or so, and then turn it off. Btw, there are two buttons on the adapter: The top is the test button: This button checks if the safety device is functioning correctly; pressing it should immediately cut power to the unit. The bottom is the reset button: This button restores power to the air conditioner after the plug has tripped or after the test button has been pressed. I also want to mention that this ISN'T quiet at all. I would get something else besides this, though; it seems like it'll actually stop working one of these days. This air conditioner does its job, though, and I like it; it suits me. I'll update in a month if this air conditioner still runs. Edit: I got it for a week; it still runs, but I have to reset it for the cooling to work and hear water working... There's little to no difference when it's set to low or high cooling. This air conditioner pretty sucks, and it doesn't make your room cold. When you set it to high cool, it just makes it cool, but for some reason it's a bit chilly on high. Edit: 2 weeks later and now I noticed all the settings don't work anymore and everything is the same. When I turn on fan mode, I hear the coolant, and when I turn it off and then on in 5 seconds, I hear the coolant in fan mode. I got scammed, gg. At least I'm not hot anymore, so I guess that's a good thing? I'm going to reduce my review to 2 stars now; what a pathetic company. (I should've just gotten the electric version.) I'm guessing this item slowly got defective, but if one of your items is defective, then I have a mindset that all of your items are defective. GET SOMETHING ELSE! And please only get an electric version. Edit: I got this item on July 7, and it doesn't work like it used to anymore. i got complete scammed buying this..

Update: 1/2026: Unit still runs but it has a serious flaw...mechanical thermostat that is mounted in a part of the unit that is basically OUTSIDE. The probe does not work. I use this unit in my server room which can get up to 80 degrees at times. In the winter time, the unit never kicked on. This was because the thermostat was well below the temp it needed to kick on because of the outside temps. This means that my room stayed hot. I tried submerging the copper probe and bulb into literal boiling water to see if it kicked the compressor on and it never did. As far as it picking up internal temps....it is junk. As I sit here typing this, this very room is 75 degrees and I have the unit set to max temp...However, it is 35 degrees outside and the temp at the unit in the window is about 44. Analog thermostat is the major flaw if you are wanting to use this unit for year round cooling based off internal temps. First off, the room this is going into is 15'x15' (225sq ft) but the windows are these older 14" wide windows. The previous unit was also a GE 5,000 BTU and just fit enough. It lasted about 5yrs and on hot 100+ days could keep that room with a server in it around 70-72 on max cool. When it finally died out I tried the Amazon Basics a few days ago and it was a dud out of box... Decided to go with what worked last time only a different color. In the pic on setting 7, it got down to 55deg before compressor kicked off. Had I left it on max cool, it would have easily been down to around 52deg. This is what my previous GE got down to. Since it's brand new at time of pic and freshly turned on, I wanted to break it in slowly before maxing it. The only downside that GE seems to share is that the fan speed on low or high are not much different. The high fan speed is not that great. I will say this, the Amazon Basics one really pushed air out fast but could never get cooler than 68 out of the vent. This GE is also a tad noist with the compressor on and has a chirp to it with the freon cycling. Overall, it is sunny and 80 degrees out and with 2 of my servers going in this larger room, the temp inside with doors closed is an even 70 at max cool.
