David Jeremiah's Angels
"ANGELS"by Dr. David JeremiahThis scholarly work is subtitled "Angels: Who They Are; How They Help; What the Bible Reveals." It delves into understanding that is derived from hundreds of references in the Scripture (NIV used), but also from reliable experiences reported by people in the recent past. Dr. Jeremiah's aim is to clarify understanding about angels and to refute misconception and myth. And indeed he does this brilliantly, answering the questions we might have.I found this book to be a real eye-opener. Jeremiah points out the important work that angels have done from early in Old Testament times and that they may continue to do today. He has substantiated his ideas with Scripture and testimony of individuals. He addresses the belief that some have about personal "guardian angels." He backs this belief by citing Scripture: Psalm 91:11-12 "For He will command His angels concerning you, to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone."One interesting chapter compares angels with believing humans: differences and similarities. For example, both have immortality, but angels seem to have an extremely long life. Gabriel, for example, was there for Daniel and then again for John's and Jesus' birth announcements. Jesus tells about a similarity in the two: that deceased believers will neither marry nor be given in marriage, but "are like angels in heaven." (Mark 12:25)Another chapter describes "Hell's Angels" about those wicked ones who have fallen and are carrying out the evil intents of Satan. Jesus' interaction with angels is found in yet another chapter: His birth, His temptation, at Gethsemane, and after His Resurrection.Angels are innumerable. Various Bible passages cite a "mighty multitude: or "thousands upon thousands." They are also described in Scripture as being like "winds" or like "flames of fire." Imagine!Sometimes angels appear before men, looking like men, too: to Gideon, Samson's father, Lot, Daniel, Apostle John, Joseph (father of Jesus, several times in dreams.)Angels, just as believers, are servants of God. They do things in support of God's kingdom. For example, they sing and rejoice with each soul saved. Based upon what Dr. Jeremiah has read and studied, he says that angels have "great intelligence and communication abilities."Angels act as God's messengers over and over again in Scripture. I cite these well-known examples: Mary, the mother of Jesus, regarding the divine conception; the many angelic visions recorded by John in Revelation. They also may protect God's chosen and provide guidance to man. Dr. Jeremiah even believes that angels give us comfort and encouragement. The word "angels" means "messengers." However, they do much more than this. Just look at the various names for angels to assist in understanding what they do: "host of heaven" (2 Chronicles 18:18), "holy ones" (Psalm 89:7), "mighty ones who do His bidding" (Psalm 103:20). There are "cherubim" or "cherubs" (2 Samuel 22:10:10), and "seraphim" or "seraphs", meaning "burning one" or "shining one" (Psalm 104:4). We also find two specific names of angels: Gabriel and Michael. The latter was called an "archangel."Evil angelic forces have some other names: powers, dominions, authorities (of the dark world), and spiritual hosts of wickedness.God Himself seems to manifest Himself as "the angel of the Lord" on occasion. One such reference is made in Judges 2:1,4 where God speaks at length as an angel about Israel's disobedience. We seem to be closely observed by angels. See the "watchers" in Daniel 4:13,17 (NKJV). And, it is a real possibility that angels may accompany God's people to heaven. When the beggar in Luke 16 died, "the angels carried him to Abraham's side."NOTE: Despite the weight of this subject matter, it is easily read and understood. We can trust Dr. Jeremiah as a well-known authority on the Bible.Reviewed by Margaret Lezark in March 2013

Biblically grounded
This book is firmly rooted in scriptural references. It does not ‘tickle your ears’ to make it a feel good fanciful read.Dr Jeremiah at his best.

A necessary read in today's climate!
Bought this book as our Bible Study Group is starting a session on "Angels", a very misunderstood subject in today's climate, even among so called christian circles, therefore, I thought that we all would benefit from this book. I have started it and am really enjoying it. I love David Jeremiah as an author. He seems to take you on a journey through the bible and always has relevant examples, mostly biblical, to back up what he is saying. I have also bought Billy Graham's book on angels and David Pawson's which I can recommend.

A Most Comprehensive Coverage Of Angels
This is the most comprehensive coverage of Angels that I have ever read. It spans all of biblical time citing biblical references not human experience and opinions. The book is so well written that it is a page turner involving the reader as though you were looking at the bible as David Jeremiah turned its pages. These all biblical stories make today’s angel stories more believable when we check them against the biblical stories. Be blessed reading it.
