Marvel Comics Library Spider-man 1962–1964 Hardcover – November 15, 2024

To my mind, this is the best collection available of the first 21 issues of the Amazing Spider-Man. It’s very large, but easier to handle than the XXL Taschen edition and the enlarged, but not huge, page size is perfect for reading. The bright white glossy paper does make the colors appear a bit light, especially if you are used to the recolored Masterworks or Omnibus collections, but they are actually very true to the original comic books, with faults in the original printing corrected here. I’ve included two photos comparing this edition to original pages from the third issue. Some, although not all, of the original ad (and letters) pages are included too. As Taschen intended, this is a great presentation of the original comics and the price is actually pretty modest for a book of this quality. Well worth buying!

Perhaps in increasing the size, the reader gets to see too many of the "pimples" and "cracks" contained within the artwork. But this is worth getting if you already have an omnibus containing the normal sized pages with improved graphics. Interesting as a relic from the past.
