Salomon Women's X-Ultra Shoe

I am pretty much a salomon shoe snob. I have hiking boots and trail running shoes that are awesome. This year instead of wearing trail running shoes on my day hikes, i decided to go for this hiking shoe instead and also decided to go for the gore Tex. Like all my salomons, these fit love i.e. a dream right out of the box. No breaking in, no blisters. I noticed that these shoes have more rigidity to them than trail running shoes. This provides more support for the entires foot and ankles. Less chance of turning an ankle. The soles have an aggressive style that is great for gripping wet or smooth surfaces without slipping. These definitely feel really stable when hiking on unstable terrain.

Money well spent. These arrived late, and I did not get a chance to break them in before a weekend of intense hiking in North Carolina. They were so comfortable, right out of the box. Roomy toe box, supportive, and very easy to adjust. I previously had a pair of Merrill’s that I liked, but as we started going on more strenuous hikes, my toes were getting bruised on the steep declines. Bought these shoes - problem solved! My normal size fit perfectly.

I was looking for a replacement shoe for my old Salomon Ellipse GTX hiking shoes which I LOVED! They were fitted for me by my local REI in New Jersey, based on my narrow feet, overpronation, and need for an outdoor work shoe. They absolutely cradled my feet and took me through all sorts of mud, snow and beach exposure. They worked great for me for several years, and I always figured I would buy the same shoe again when/if they wore out.Well, now I live in the US Virgin Islands and am out walking the hilly concrete roads and hiking rocky beaches and park trails. The uppers loosened up a bit, and the heels wore down to the point of slipping on downhills. I'm ready for my new Ellipse GTX - and they don't make them anymore! :>(So the new model is the Salomon Women's X Ultra 3 GTX Hiking Shoe. It took some doing to get them mailed here since there are no decent shoe shops in the VI. The first pair had a high and rigid arch running side to side across the shoe - in only one shoe. If they were the same I might have kept them. I sent them back. When I was back on the mainland I had a new pair sent to me, and I also compared them with a sturdy pair of KEEN hiking shoes I tried at a Bass Pro Shop (I think it was the Targhee III). The KEEN's were way too wide for my narrow feet while digging obnoxiously into my ankle area. Really weird, uncomfortable, and not stable/grippy at my heel.The Solomons gripped my heel and both shoes had the same amount of high arch this time. I decided to keep them.Regarding lacing and comfort: Other reviewers have commented on the lacing system and the fact that they put them on for the first time and ran 9 miles and their feet hurt. Why would you not gently acclimate the shoes and your feet first? You are asking for trouble. It did take several days of walking around in the house with the shoes to decide if I like them and felt comfortable enough to powerwalk on hilly terrain. I finally did.Regarding the quick-pull lacing system: you simply don't have the ability to customize the tightness where you want it/need it - especially if you have oddly shaped feet and need more room over bunions, etc. I have come to terms with a loose cinch for walking on paved surfaces and a tighter cinch for rocky trails and beaches. Bottom line - swap out the laces if you need a custom fit.Overall: I'm happy with the X Ultra 3 for my narrow heel. I do wish the toebox was a bit more generous. I still have my old Ellipse GTX and am tempted to have them retread as a great back-up shoe for sloppy weather.

I have worn Salomon Elipse GTX for years as they tend to be wider than most shoes. I hike year round and loved them. When they discontinued them, I come across this shoe and loved that it came in wide in my size (6.5 ). They are wider than a regular Salomon and very comfortable. Lightweight but sturdy. I tend to do 10-15 miles hikes in rocky terrain and have had no issues so far.

I like the shoes , I used it too hike 3 1/2 miles after unboxing the shoes . I love the shoelaces and very light for a hiking shoes. But My shoes size is 7 after reading one of the comments here before I bought the shoes I followed the advice to get smaller than a your regular size . So I chosen 6 1/2 wide its still a little bit big but good enough to wear a nice cushions socks. Overall I love the shoes .❤️❤️❤️

I’ve had these shoes before and I needed a new pair. These shoes fit perfectly and are so comfortable. Great for walking.

I Like the awesome stability in this shoe. I do think it may run on the large size, I never needed the wide fit.The gore tex makes this shoe feel like plastic uppers. It is very hot and stiff on my foot which is a bummer since I live in a hot climate all year round. I never walked anywhere except inside my house, I cannot comment on the waterproof feature. It felt large and uncomfortable.I am returning it for 1/2 size smaller, and the model that doesn't have Gore tex uppers. Hoping that is better.

Purtoppo la calzata non era adatta a me, anche con i lacci chiusi il piede tendeva a uscire dalla calzatura durante il passo

Einsteigen, loslaufen...perfekt wie immer bei Salomon (bei bekannter Grösse...(immer etwas grösser als sonst)

Sturdy and comfy shoes. Fit as expected.
