Nice starter filter
I purchased this filter in 77mm for a 400mm wildlife lens after having disappointing results with a much more expensive Hoya HMC filter. The Hoya had great reviews, but on 2 outings with the HMC it became apparent that all my pictures were grainy, unsharp and out of focus. After running some A/B tests I determined that the Hoya filter was indeed to blame. Despite contacting the company, I didn't even receive a response (and I didn't purchase through Amazon for an easy return policy, to my dismay). After 6 months of use with the Marumi UV Filter I am thrilled to report that my pictures have been crisp and the product's glass looks the same as when I got it. The ring doesn't look or feel as professional as some of the more expensive brands out there, but I'm happy with the picture quality foremost.

Great quality
I was a little concerned about possible affect on picture sharpness/quality when purchasing this filter (and a couple more of different sizes) for my Nikkor nano-coated zoom lenses used with my Nikon D800, but so far after a few hundred test shots, I've seen no discernible "degradation" between filter-on and filter-off shots of the same subject (both natural and flash lighting):1) Focus tests proved the same (no fine-tuning adjustment of auto-focus required)2) Sharpness: I compared pictures of highly detailed but stationary objects. There is no visible difference at 100% in Photoshop (placing the two shots as layers on top of each other and taking the difference); but there is a difference when enlarged to 200% (I'm not sure whether it's the filter's fault or the precision limits of Photoshop or slight shifts in the position when the pictures were taken).3) Color: I compared pictures of uniform color cards under natural lighting by using the color sampler in Photoshop; I found Photoshop color codes for the two sets of pictures are within a few points of each other.Overall: Great quality.

Probably the best filter I have seen
I've tried a lot of filters - Hoya, B&W, Tiffen, Polaroid and a whole lot of others.Looking at filters on black velvet is very, very revealing as it will show you which filters have the worst reflections - and therefore the worst light transmission characteristics. Most filters have a little reflection, Hoya HMC & HD filters are among the best, very clear with slight green cast. B&W are pretty good, but slightly more reflective with a blue-ish cast. This Marumi is another league. It's almost invisible there is so little reflection. At extreme angles, you might see a very slight green cast, but much, much less than any other filter I've ever seen. It seems very flat as well, and the outer ring has ridges on the outside for easy removal.Overall, highly recommended. These are now my default filter brand. Here's a photoset I created on Flickr showing different filter types: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cmaresca/sets/72157634353668468/

Marumi 77mm DHG MCUV filter Cheap Hoya Pro 1 alternative!
I am surprised by this filter. I own some Hoya Pro 1 filters and this is just as good...sort of. It feels a bit cheaper made but the coating and glass is just clean and the multi-coating is great. At the same time i ordered the regular Hoya Multi Coated UV filter. The murami is a slimmer frame than the hoya...wish i would have ordered 2 Murami filters. The build of the Murami is not cheap per-say but compared to the hoya pro 1's, its a bit less cheap. I would recommend the Murami filters i think you would be surprised. Filter feels solid and glass is sweet.

Not what I expected
When the filter arrived I noticed right away the poor packaging. Most filters (even the cheapest) have some type of foam padding or cushion to protect the glass. This filter was in a plastic hard case (good start) with a cheap flimsy plastic insert that loosely held the filter on one side. The other side of the filter was against an abrasive piece of cardboard. The filter was so loose that it rattled severely when gently shaken. When I opened the package I noticed right away the the filter was dirty. I had to clean my brand new filter (no chemicals, microfiber lens cloth used only for my photo gear) and then discovered that coating was uneven and already damaged. Packed it up and requested an Amazon refund. I ordered 2 others filters at the same time, one Nikon and the other B&W, both of which are far superior. One was less expensive and one was more. Bottom line, I will be avoiding this brand in the future. I ordered it based on the positive reviews and perhaps my particular filter was the one bad apple. However, based on the poor packaging I would imagine that damage in shipping may be an issue with this brand. From now on I'll stick to the filter brands that I know and trust.

Filter working but no happy how arrived
Hi everyone, I bought a 77 mm filter CPL and the construction seems very well, sturdy. When I received the plastic wrap and I opened, I looked at it thru light and discovered a stain, I tried to clean it with a soft microfiber lens cloth but it didn't dissapear. Seems that the shipping or the quality control is failing. The ring is a little hard to move when trying to capture the more dramatic contrast in the skies. I bought two additional marumi filtes, I will see if they come with the same problem.

Great Quality!
I wanted a good quality filter for my new Canon 70-200 lens. I had read that the Marumi filters were good, so I decided to give it a try. So glad I did! The quality of pictures in wonderful. My first time out with the lens, I took action shots from the sidelines of my grandsons football game. Crystal clear detail, even when I would crop a picture to zero in on facial expressions. I shot some pictures without the filter to see if there was any difference in quality - there was none - the filter is clear with no distortion that I could pick up. I plan to use Marumi for all of my camera filters, and would recommend them without hesitation.
