Diamond 4" Flat Grinding Lapidary Machine, Rock Polishing Kit

Great little machine. Really only works for small stones but you can't find anything like this for this kind of price anywhere else. People complain about the arbor size being too small making replacement discs an impossible find. However, if you just click on the company store they sell a replacement and expanded disc set of the correct size for 22 bucks. I ordered one at the same time I ordered the machine. No need to call them on the phone and struggle through the language barrier as some of these other reviews suggest. My only complaint is that I wish it was 6 in. I haven't tried the polishing pad with polishing paste yet. Highly recommended.

If you're a rock hound and want to start learning how to do cabochons you can't beat this little unit. I've been doing silversmithing for decades and messed around doing a little bit of lapidary with my flexible shaft. This is a solid built little starter kit for a fraction of the cost of regular flat laps. If you want to get less expensive lap Wheels which come standard with the 5/8 in diameter just get a saw bushing washer that does 5/8 to 3/8 so it fits on this machine.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. Absolute trash. Motor failed nearly immediately. Not even seated correctly. Made various abnormal noises then completely failed. Not sure what reverse engineered Chinese company makes this but it’s absolutely horrible.

Small and simple is what I wanted and that is what I received, it is a nice little grinder and I would buy it again.

I love this flat. Its a bit noisy and it didn't come with the 320 grit sand paper discs. But to be fair on the site it didn't say they were included, but the manual shows them being in the accessories. Its very portable and easy to change out the discs, and I really love the convenience of the recycled water feature. I would love to get this same grinder in a 6" too, otherwise I recommend this grinder for smaller stones and its great for beginners. Please view the images on the site as it has clearer instructions and a parts list. It shows the grit paste in USA terms. If this company offers extra discs for sale that would be great too.

OK, so it gets the job done. There is absolutely no direction on the cutting paste. It is not clear as to what grit to start with. There is only one felt pad and even that doesn’t tell you which side is up. Should be really easy to figure out, but they should also tell you. The unit itself is difficult to operate since it’s on a flat surface as opposed to an angled surface. Great for a hobby as I suppose but I think it’s overpriced.

This is a great little machine. Grinds small rocks very well. For those complaining about arbor size, just order a 5/8 to 3/8 adaptor (aka a washer). I use the disk that comes with the machine as a base, then put on the adaptor, then any type of 5/8 wheel you wanna use. I then flip the retaining nut upside down and tighten. I've cut and polished 35 cabs so far and have had great results.

As was pointed out by one person here, the small arbor size on this machine can be adapted to 5/8 in. arbor with a washer. The washer i found at my local hardware store has an O.D. (outer diameter) of 0.623" (15.8mm) which is just shy of 0.625" but it engages well with my disc (5/8 or 0.625"). The inner diameter of the washer needs to be approx 0.316" (8mm). But the washer i got at the store was only about 0.218" so i had to widen it to 0.316" with a dremel & cylindrical diamond grinder. The disc that came with the machine can serve as a backing for the 5/8 disc. This is worth doing; now i can use standard 4" discs with 5/8 arbor.
