RIDICULOUS & PITIFUL!!!
I first learned of this book a few years ago on a morning talk show. Yes, I'm a guy, but know very little about cars (just not my thing), and thought this would be a good book to have since it was targeted to an audience (yes, mainly women) that really weren't that knowledgeable about cars. Thought perhaps I could pick up on a few things my dad had always tried to teach me! NOPE.I finally ordered since I found it for next to nothing & it arrived today. I was actually excited to flip thru it & see what I could learn...thinking it would be an easy-to-understand, "relatable" sort of tone. THIS BOOK SHOULD BE MARKETED AS A DRIVERS ED COMPANION. It's full of THE MOST BASIC "drivers ed" type information. I was shocked. There's nothing about CARS (ie: HOW TO change oil, HOW TO check for fill-in-the-blank, HOW TO whatever else you could think of, especially in the line of maintenance. There's an entire chapter dedicated to "What if" scenarios, most of which you should ALREADY KNOW before you ever drive in the first place (again, drivers ed info). "What if........"-- I have a traffic accident?-- I witness an accident?-- My car catches on fire?-- My gas pedal sticks while I'm driving?-- I have to drive in extremely heavy traffic? (honestly?!) -- and many many more of these ridiculous "what if's."It also covers BASIC topics like:-- Selecting your car-- Paying for the car you buy--Choosing the right insurance (including "can speeding tickets affect my rates" and "will having a child in college affect my rates?"If you haven't figured out already, this book is insane. It's only suitable for a 14 year old drivers ed student or similar person. And if you STILL feel compelled to buy this, save yourself the money & ONLY buy it if you can find it practically free!! Just ridiculous.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR MALES AND FEMALES OF ALL AGES
This is a great gift book for anyone: brother, friend, spouse, teenager or a young adult getting a first car. We all have something to learn in this very well laid out and graphically organized book.

Maybe my gender is showing
This book has pretty much targeted a market of pretty ditzy people. Some of it is so simple as to be slightly insulting. If you are really young and don't know a thing about cars.......maybe you could benefit from this book.Otherwise common sense would prevail and save you the cost of this book.A few nuggets could be gleaned from this book but not enough to satisfy a frugal book buyer.

Does not know what you really need
I sent this know nothing an email pointing out she does not know the simplest things correctly such as tire inflation. She states to go by the door sticker which is totally wrong. The door sticker on a compact car will tell you the minimum inflation just like a one ton truck as that sticker does not know how much air you need. Look at your front tires if the outer edges are rounding off you need a lot more air. There is more to know but not here in this forum. But having low tires will get you killed and that I know from seeing it happen.

Ridiculous and rather insulting book
Maybe this book should be targeted specifically for a teen audience without much experience driving. There are some interesting sections on winter driving, things that impact insurance rates, and what to keep in a car for emergencies. But most adults will have the common sense to handle situations such as, "What do I do if it starts raining?" or "What if I have to drive at night?" Not sure what else I can say but wanted to add a review to balance out those that say this is an excellent resource. It's for anyone who lacks common sense and needs some tips but anyone looking for car maintenance and repair should look elsewhere.
