Cheap peace of mind!
Had one of these go off under the kitchen sink & saved a whole lot of damage in a finished bedroom in the basement. Well worth having. Battery life is excellent!

Here's how you disable it
I looked on the internet for how to disable these once you replace them. If you use the recommended replacement date, there will still be power to the unit and it will howl when you try to put it in a trash bin or e-waste bin.Cut the top off just below the seam, using a hacksaw, rotary tool, or whatever. You'll see the battery inside. Just snap off the retaining clip with a screwdriver and take the battery out.One more thing, the manufacturer could absolutely make the battery replaceable by making the top removable instead of gluing it on. Don't know why they won't.

One of the alarms didn't work
Test before using, only one of two alarms worked, the second was dead silent when put in water.

Works!
My wife and our dog was awakened at 3 a.m. to the sound of a shrill noise. She got up to see what it was and found the water heater had just begun to leak on the floor...thereby actuating the alarm. She woke me up...I'm a very sound sleeper...and I shut off the water in time before any damage was done to the house. Had we not made this investment we would have had the whole end of our house flooded before we would have normally awakened. Worth every penny!!!

Not loud enough
Snce this is designed to be located in basements, it has to loud enough to be heard upstairs - and it isn't. So despite the low price, it really has no value if it can't do the job.

Does precisely what it’s supposed to do.
This is a terrific, very reasonable warning device to alert anyone to a water leak in a location you may not see often. Installation is nothing more than unwrap and put it where you want it.

I have used this product in the past. I’ve never had the alarm sound so does it work? Who knows but it’s given me piece of mind.
