I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again ~ it tastes a great amount of bravery to be vulnerable to a world that might not believe you, and Amanda has done just that. Every word is a living image of what has happened and what has been felt. The mermaid is free.

my favorite!
I loved this collection. It’s so so hard to pick a favorite of Amanda’s but I would definitely say this one is it! The words are so refreshing to the soul, reading them is like being refreshed by the salt water Amanda often mentions. This collection makes you feel understood and seen and somehow reminds you that the blood from your wounds will inevitably be washed away, even though scars remain. The last of the Women Are Some Kind of Magic series goes out with an incredible siren song that soothes your soul. Thank you to Amanda for digging deep and always baring her soul onto her pages. I look forward to whatever she has planned next.

Has a strong overarching narrative, but the poems did not stick with me
I am a huge fan of amanda's work and credit her poetry for getting me into modern poetry. Despite loving the overarching narrative of the mermaid finding her voice and becoming strong, the individual poems were not as strong as some of her previous work. However, since this is a collection about healing it is hard to make critiques about it. Who am I to say she didn't present her healing the right way? But, I will say that despite feeling her pain in certain poems, I could not connect to this collection in the way I connected to her previous works.I also was not a fan of intermixing the other poet's poems in the last section. I liked their poems, but going into this I thought they would be in a separate section. It was jarring to keep switching from amanda's narrative to another. I do like the idea of so many poet's showing different ways of healing and overcoming one's demons, but intermixing them lost some of the value of both their words and amanda's.I also always forget that I should not read eARCs of poetry because the formatting is usually weird. The formatting of this collection was pretty good, but I still think I need to reread it to truly get meaning out of some of the poems.

Healing💜
To the divine feminine, if you are on this journey of healing as we all are and understand the language of the mermaids and the stars, this will be helpful. Read it for yourself💜 thanks Amanda💜

A Beautiful Conclusion
Amanda Lovelace is my favorite author/poet. I was over the moon when I heard she was writing another book, and that it would be about MERMAIDS! Such a unique fantastical creature! Even so, I was worried I wouldn’t love it like I do her others, with an unhealthy intensity! However, my fears were unfounded because each poem hit me like a freight train. This is the most raw, personal poetry we’ve seen from her, and it takes guts to publish something like this where everyone can see it. This is more princess than witch, but it’s less anger and more plain truth. I would definitely recommend buying any of her books, but this was a beautiful conclusion to her Women Are Some Kind of Magic series!

Bad wrapping a not so good book
The packaging wasn’t good and it only came in a box and the books weren’t wrapped with paper or even bubblewrapThe book wasn’t all the good. The writer talks about feminism which I like but her way in portraying the message was weak and not refined enough. I liked her first book more

Forgettable
"i watchedyou watching mewane. now, you haveno f* choiceother than towatch me-become full.Okay. I struggled a lot with this. I wanted to look at this collection objectively and in an isolated manner, however it is part of a series, so I do think it's fair to bring up the previous two titles. We fought dragons with the princess in The Princess Saves Herlself in This One.We used the fire designed to scorch us back against those who would watch us burn in The Witch Doesn't Burn in This One.I wanted so much to take back the narrative in The Mermaid's Voice Returns in This One but I have to admit I was underwhelmed.Poetry is something so personal, and though this book didn't ignite something inside me, like the two previous titles did, I know that doesn't discredit this book and the poems in it.I still think amanda lovelace is a truly gifted writer, with a unique perpective because of what life has put her through.Mermaid wasn't an instant favorite, but I am whiling to give it another shot later in the year.I got a digital ARC from NetGalley but I am planning on keeping my pre-order for this book.I still want Mermaid to join her sisters Princess and Witch on my shelves.I felt there was a disconnect between the chapters in the book (the sky, the shipwreck, the song and the surviving) and the poems didn't really have that cohesive and organized feel I was used to from lovelace. What shocked me was that the poem I enjoyed most in the book, and that I thought most related to the title and theme of the book wasn't written by lovelace but by a collaborator (Nikita Gill).
