I have gone through 3 boxes of these (not one bag tore in deployment) since last spring and I have been able to see the degree of decomosition in my compost pile over time. As these are organic and fabricated out of a corn derivative they do break down effectively, not completely all at once, but quickly and way more than you might imagine. In fact, since switching my countertop compost bucket to the OXO Good Grips compost bin with a hinged detatchable cover, I find that unless I am really deligent in getting the bags out to the compost when full they will sometimes start to decompose, especially if the bin's cover is closed and the materials are especially wet. If you lift the bag carefully you can see if it is tearing and take precautions, either carry the whole bin to the compost pile or, if it's nasty outside, transfer the Bio-bag into a non-biodegradable plastic bag, twisting the top to seal, and storing in the garage. Doing so can get you a couple of days reprieve while still being able to use your countertop bin. Just remember, DO NOT ADD THE NON-DEGRADABLE BAG TO YOUR COMPOST!! Empty and dispose of accordingly.

Bags are strong and biodegradable too!!

Like any bio degradable product, these bags are meant to be in tact only for a specific time frame. If they were sturdy and resilient, they wouldn't have not have been truly bio.Having said that, be careful ripping them apart. Treat them gently. Do not overfill. I submitted a picture to this product to show how much a bag can hold. What you see on the pic is pulp from vegetable and fruit that yealded two 10 oz cups of juice. I did not weight, but next time I will. (I will make sure to post an update) There were also other scraps, but regardless, it was quite a heavy load. I agree with some other customers, you may want to crumble a piece of paper or bounty if you want some moisture absorbed. That can help contain compost mixture in case a rip happens due to sharper scrap causing puncture.Again, these bags are not the same as regular plastic bags, nor they should be. Have fair expectations.

Really helpful except I did not realize they would disintegrate during the week while inside my little composting bucket. My intent was to put them in the bucket and then just take with the compost in them to the transfer station. That did not work out.

Bought these a while ago. I had no problems with several boxes but with this box, every bag I take out splits. It splits as I unroll it or it splits as I place it in the compost container and finally the jot when one does not split immediately, it splits when I take it out of the container to take it to the Grow NYC compost containers. Worthless

I am an admitted granola-head and very environmentally aware. Having these bags keeps me mindful of food items that can go into my yard waste for our city to compost. They are super easy to use and hold a lot of food scraps. But, I also like that if I have something that will start to become odorous if I were to put it in my household trash, it can be emptied sooner. I love that the bags are biodegradable.
