London's 100 Best Churches: An Illustrated Guide

not exactly e reference book, does not fit in your pocket and no map. Pretty useless.

Most of the existing guides to London Churches focus on the churches in the square mile and are a little heavy going on architectural detail. This book I am pleased to say is easy to read, beautifully illustrated with colour pictures of the churches and is easy to dip in and out. Not only does the book feature the city churches but also includes churches in greater London and also includes various denominations. Don't expect a comprehensive survey of all the churches in London but more a good overview of the churches most worth seeing. Each double page contains colour pictures of each church plus a written summary with lots of interesting facts about the churches and not just a summary of the architecture. It is an excellent starting point for discovering London churches. The more scholarly may wish to have something more comprehensive but for someone like me who is more a casual visitor it is ideal.

Interesting and lively background info but no substitute for those who need the whole historical and architectural monty

Living in London, and having a great interest in churches I was delighted to get this book which is surely one of the best books on its subject.

London's 100 Best Churches: An Illustrated Guide by Leigh Hatts is far from being a "best" book. Besides the audacity of proclaiming the "Best" Churches, the criteria is lacking. More disturbing is the author's insistence on ignoring reality and history of each church whilst using her self-promoting website to announce incorrect facts and historical inaccuracies. Do not waste your money on this book s it is inaccurate, lacking and used to promote the authors friends and preferences.
