Excellent!
I bought this to fit a ceiling fan where there was no joists. It was easy to fit and does the job perfectly.

Great product for retrofitting ceiling fan
My house was built when plastic electrical boxes were acceptable to use. Of course a plastic box will not support installation of a ceiling fan. This product is very sturdy and is easy to install in place of the plastic box especially in a finished ceiling. I have now installed four (4) of these and they provide very solid support for the ceiling fans. Recommended!

This is the one you want…
I had to fix a ceiling fan installation at my daughter’s new house where the previous owner had simply nailed a box to the roof sheathing above the drywall in a second floor garret bedroom. It was a janky, extremely poor job, but the problem was that the old four-inch rafters didn’t give much room for putting a real fan box in, and the space between the rafters was a non-standard length with the light needing to go in the middle rather than against a rafter. This was the absolutely easy and perfect solution. It’s not cheap, and the reason it’s not is that it’s exactly what you need, well-designed and solidly built for use in such situations. You put this in place, then extend the arms by turning the adjuster until they grab your joists or rafters and you’re done. When installed, you have a sufficiently-solid base for the safe installation of pretty much any ceiling fan.

Best one I've used
Blown-in insulation in a small space makes putting any brace somewhat unpleasant. What I LIKE about this one, stark contrast to another brand I've used, is how the bracket that holds the electrical box mounts. This saved lots of time compared to other kits. If I ever need to do this again, this is the bracket kit I will get.
