Galapagos Islands : Explorer (Ocean Explorer Maps)

This basically is a medium-scale map of the Galapagos archipelago with moderately detailed notes about the islands' history, geology, and wildlife. The map is marginally better than what you'll find in most guide books (Moon's Galapagos Islands by Lisa Cho is absolutely superb and the one guidebook to get if you're getting only one). I'm not sorry I got the map but I probably would not have if I'd seen it in advance.

Nice descriptions of the animals and birds as well as key people who have been there. A great addition to our trip ther.

I found this map to be useful during our recent seven day tour of the Galápagos Islands by ship. Not mandatory. There is overlap with the guide book (Galápagos Wildlife) we bought and if I had to do it over again, I would just buy the guide book.

Included on this detailed map are facts about its history, geopogy, cultural and human impacts, flower and fauna, and just about everything else you wish to know about this magical place. This purchase was a perfect means to put together our photos and memories of this voyage.

This was a nice map to have as we travelled island to island. We were able to mark our ship's destinations and see where we were headed. It was also nice having a lot of descriptions and animal information right on this map.

Should be with you on any visit. Lots of information in a small package. The only thing missing is identification of the park-sanctioned sites for tourists.

Without a map it is very easy to lose track of where you are and what island your guide is talking about at any one time. We took the National Geographic trip which visited many islands and we were glad to have this map with us.

No one intending to visit the Galapagos Islands should be without a copy of the Galapagos Islands Explorer Visitor's Map. The map itself is excellent--clear, detailed, and complete. Its value is greatly enhanced by the large amount of information (biology and evolution, oceanography, geology, human history) that is summarized.

This is not really a map. Just pictures of the islands - no contours, no features like beaches, paths, cliffs etc, just a few towns and roads. Yes, it has a lot of info around the pictures of the islands, but I would have bought a guide book (probably for less money) if that was what I wanted. Very expensive for what it is. The seller doesn't even show a picture of what the unfolded map looks like (not surprising really as I don't think they would sell many that way). Unfortunately this meant that I only had the reviewers to go by. I don't know what they were thinking. Don't make the same mistake as me.

This is so much more than just a map. I bought this after already booking a typical Galapagos cruise so that I could get a good idea of where I'd be going and which islands I'd be visiting. If you're hoping to see something specific in the Galapagos my advice would be to buy the map BEFORE you book your cruise so that you can ensure you will be visiting the correct island! There's lots of information about the various islands and the types of wildlife found there, with good pictures. It also has lots of info about historical figures connected with the islands including the first to encounter them, buccaneers, biologists, zoologists, conservationists, as well as Charles Darwin.This is not a handy little map to be kept in your pocket, to be extracted for a quick look to see where you are but a (bit of an unwieldy) full size job for spreading on a table and poring over. Great information though.

Excellent, clear map, photos of animals to be found on the islands, highly recommend it. Very pleased.
