No button eyes, I would be very surprised if a child could chew them off. I have a 2 year old and a 9 mo old and have no fears of letting either of them play with it:)

He is about 15 inches tall when sitting and very adorable.

is this machine washable?

I'm not sure. It was shipped to my grandson before I got to see it. You might check with the company to see if it is washable.
