I think it's ok. Read if you have a TEC Remote
I purchased the elite painted motor so this review is for that model only. I also want to caveat this review with the fact that this review is my opinion and the instructions below are for my installation only . If you follow them, you will do so at your own risk. Now enough of the legal statement.I believe this is a good motor but beware that if you do not have a switch that is supported by BH USA, you will be in the dark and while you may speak to the customer service agent or the wiring guy, you will most likely get nowhere. BH reps will often state “we don’t support that switch” As a matter of fact, I heard everything from “we don’t support that switch” to “there is no such thing as up and down wires….” Sometimes the BH USA person’s tone is condescending but I have thick skin so say what you want to me. Read on if you plan to order this motor:1. You will be fine with a BH USA supported switch as I believe the wiring diagrams may work. I am not sure, I do not own such switches nor will I ever after my recent BH experience.2. If you are installing on a TECII remote, this motor will work….a. First, take the Attention letter and the equipment guide that came with motor and use it as a fire extinguisher or line your garbage can with it. Both of those repurposed activities will be more useful that reading the verbiage. The words and diagrams written in the equipment guide and attention letter are nonsense and contradictory. e.g. The letter states 2016 wiring guide but the manual state 2017 wiring guide. The wiring guys said there is no such thing as up and down control wires but the guide clearly states” to change motor direction, switch orange and white controller wires” aka terminal 1 and 4 for the elite painted motor. The FAQ answers made me laugh. Such arrogant answers. Read for humor.b. If you ordered a stand alone motor (just the motor, no wiring and switch), it will come wired for 220. How do you know? Because the motor blue wire will be on terminal 2 and motor white wire will be on terminal 3. To change to 120V, take the motor blue wire and plug it onto terminal 3 and white to terminal 1. How do I know? I spent 3 hours of my vacation trying to get a clear answer from BH USA. I got the answer finally.c. “There is no up and down wires. The motor runs either clockwise or counter-clockwise depending on whether…” blah blah blah, This is just BH USA being difficult. Can we speak in Layman’s terms BH USA? Most do it yourselfers as common folks trying to save little money and perhaps learn for themselves. For the rest of us normal folks, Terminal 1 and 4 are your up down wire control. For a TECII remote, this is usually you Black(up) and Orange (Down). If motor spins in the wrong direction, swap these two wires at the motor or in the remote box.d. The US National Electrical Code only mandates white (or grey) for the neutral power conductor and bare copper, green, or green with yellow stripe for the protective ground. In principle any other colors except these may be used for the power conductors. Motor Black is actually the neutral. Really?!?!?. BH USA made black neutral. So in essence the neutral wire of the TEC I box goes to this black wire on the motor. I believe the TEC II neutral is white. take the neutral wire (usually white) from your TECII remote and wire it to the black motor wiree. Red is motor trigger wire aka the extra amount of power needed to start the motor. Connect TEC II red wire to motor red wire.f. Now I assume no responsibility or liability for wiring, electrical work or any items related to the installation of this motor. The statements in this review are for informational purposes only. You may want to consult with an individual that is an expert in this field. You should use your good judgement on this motor. I accept no responsibility for the wiring of motor or control boxes In short, I think this is a good motor and I will most likely by it again now that I am familiar with it. But let me tell you that I am very frustrated by companies like BH USA. I spent an entire vacation day trying to wire this motor with little or no help from BH USA. I get it, you answered the phone and was courteous but if you can’t answer the questions, I might as well have called Domino’s pizza for help as they pick up the phone and are sometimes courteous on the phone.I’m sure BH USA will comment on this review and tell me that I am wrong or offer some silly explanation, or when this motor burns out before the warranty is up, I will have to pay full price again. In short a motor like this should be easy to wire. It’s five wires and one is ground. I did my pool pump motor in 30 minutes.BH also mentioned on their literature that over 99% of the returns they received were from customers wiring motors incorrectly and not the motors. What does that say about the BH USA wiring instructions and equipment guide…? I’ll let you be the judge. I hope I helped at least one of you today. I know this review will help BHUSA sales since we now have instructions to install this motor on a competitor’s remote…

VOLTAGE NOT LISTED! - 220/230V (can be converted to 115v)
I REALLY wanted to have a painless motor swap-out after a recent hurricane... what should have taken 15-30 minutes took longer than necessary because I needed to change the motorv from 230v to 115V!I ordered an Elite 1hp painted 56 Frame motor only from Amazon (fulfilled by Boat Hoist USA). I read the reviews, and most are very positive. I was replacing an AO Smith 3/4hp 115V motor. It is one of 2 operated by my Gem GR2 remote. I was concerned when I saw the yellow warning label about Gem remote wiring on the Elite motor. (side note: BH-USA sells ONLY Gem remotes)1. 1st of all, this motor is wired as a 220/230v! (I needed 110/115v) It can be rewired "by a qualified electrician" according to the manual and manufacturer's [BH-USA] website!- Don't you think this might have been kind of important to include in the description on Amazon!?!?2. The instructions included with the new Elite motor are fairly clear and potentially helpful (however you don't know you are ORDERING a 220v wired motor UNTIL you receive it (and eventually read the instructions AFTER you have installed it as per diagram on your remote AND similar to the motor you are replacing). If you do a web search you can find the manufacturer, and with a bit of looking around their site you can again find an actually quite helpful manual - UNLESS of course you needed a 115v motor in the 1st place.3. I have a Gem remote wired/connected exactly as shown by Gem, and text them a picture to confirm all is correct, yet no movement from this new Elite motor once wired.4. Only AFTER everything else failed did we seek out the directions that share it is wired as a 220v, and not to mess with it unless you are a Licensed Electrician (try finding one at 6:00 Friday night! (turns out there was a bad leveler switch in the remote box)I am disappointed with the initial description of this product, only in that it didn't specify 220v that could be converted to 115v in the description.I hope this will save some others from the grief we have gone through (confirming voltage):* 1st UPDATE - BH-USA did email me Sunday evening in response to an inquiry I made on their site - VERY IMPRESSED with their follow up. The email said they would contact me in AM and talk me through the simple process. This impresses me, I'll update after the call and procedures..* 2nd UPDATE - BH-USA has excellent customer service! They immediately followed up with me, AND helped trouble shoot the problem. Converting from 220v to 115v was super easy (NO electrician required). I still wish they had advertised it as a 220/115v unit so we hadn't wasted so much time and been ready to convert it (in under 1 minute). Now that the 220/115v issue is resolved (we believe) the motor installation was a perfect fit. Under 15 minutes there. Raised review to 4 stars based upon excellent customer support (In America!) My only complaint now is that I believe it should have stated in the Amazon description that if you order the motor only it ships as a 220v. (and you can easily convert it)

works ok--but manual a little vague
Motor seems to work fine after replacement. I have a circa 1995 Brema Switch A1734. When I followed the wiring diagram for the elite replacement motor, the motor only worked in one direction. If you read online how to fix or if you read how BH-USA doesn't help, you will probably drive yourself crazy. I was WTF now…right. But took a breath and re-read the instructions and then went to the motor switch wiring reference in the supplied manual. Found my switch, opened switch housing and had to swap the red and white wires on the switch. After that it worked fine. I also had to rewire the motor from 240 to 120 VAC... that was simple, all in the directions. The motor does make a louder hum then my previous AO Smith motor. For now, all good. Moral…read the instructions. It would have helped if there was a FAQ this way people can think before pulling their hair out.

Motor works fine for a pontoon boat lift
Motor works fine for a pontoon boat lift. I installed today. I replaced a 20 year old A O Smith motor. Lessons learned from the installation today:1. To save time, I recommend buying the motor with switch and GFI already wired. Its not difficult wiring the switch to the motor, just takes time. The documentation for wiring the motor to the switch was good.2. The stainless steel bolts provided are very soft. Do not tighten too much or you will strip them and have to saw them off and replace with stronger bolts and nuts.3.
