Perfect to add water to the pool, or to prevent a flood when the hose breaks
This flow meter does exactly what I expect; it counts down to zero when the water flows, then shuts off the supply. It does not time the water, like the other kind of 'egg-timer' type of meters that are set for 'minutes' instead of gallons... It uses a small water driven wheel to turn down the dial, and needs enough flow to actually work. If you need to water small quantities, or don't let it flow fast enough, it won't work; get a flow timer instead.I use it to add water to the pool; put the hose in the pool, set the flow meter to 200 gallons and let it run. After the 200 gallons, it shuts off, so I can walk away and don't have to remember the hose is still on. I always leave it attached to the spigot outside, set at about 100 gallons. If I forget to turn the spigot off, the flow meter would limit the amount of flooding in case the hose bursts. This is my third flow meter in 10 years; you could say they last about four years, which is decent for the price.

Volume vs Time
I have 2 of these devices now. They work great for my needs. I'm filling tanks vs watering. Water pressure varys. Measuring volume I'm able to reliably refill my tanks without being there easily. With a time based device I sometimes can only partially fill them and sometimes overflow.

Made for larger volumes of water
I wanted it to measure ~ 100 gallons ... it's made to measure 1000 to 1500 gallons ...the smallest setting is 200 gallons and it is way way at the end of the dial.

Timer Function Works With Sufficient Pressure - Don't Use it Unsupervised
Some complain that the timer doesn't count down. I haven't had this problem, but I have higher water pressure, so that may be what's needed to have it work properly. Once the timer shuts off, the connection to the hose bib is at that pressure. This connection is weak and eventually breaks, causing a full pressure, open-hose release until you catch it and shut off the hose bib. I try to remember to turn off the hose bib before retiring for the evening but last night I didn't and woke up to a flooded back yard after this broke and ran over night.I suggest that if you use these, be VERY DILIGENT to not leave them unattended, because they WILL break.

Better Newer Design - No Leaks!!! Different than pictured.
The product I received has the same product number, but it is NOT the same as the one pictured (which is what I had before and which did leak a little bit around the screw, but it was easily sealed with Teflon tape)What I received is black, cylindrical length wise (as opposed to the pictured one which is more like a stack of pancakes), has the same timing/amount of water in gallons (important to us, as we need longer watering times), and best of all, no screws to leak from in the new design!!!As far as I know, this is the only product of its kind that has this long watering time (actually a much more precise measuring by gallons), and does not require batteries to be replaced, i.e it is purely mechanical.Remains to see how long this new design will last, the previous design lasted about three or four years each, probably due to extreme hard water in our area.

Amazon purchased water timer
I found out that the water timers you can buy in the hardware stores look pretty good; but when I installed them, they did not work as advertised. The simpler the device, the better it seems to work. This type I purchased works real well. I have another one that must have been a previous model and it still works after 10 years or so.

Frustrated Water User
I have been trying to contact the manufacturer because this gallon per minute system does not seem to work with our creek flow. The unit never shuts off even if set for only 100 gallons. The unit is to work with 6 gal. per minute which is not on the directions. Had to find out on web.Our creek does not flow into the pipe at that volume. Want to find out if can reset unit. Have left messages for "Randy" in Customer Service but still no reply. (Used Gilmore gallon flow unit for 15 years w/no problem but can't find those now.)I might have to exchange for the minute timed unit, but my husband just threw out the box. What to do? .

It works fine and as advertised
This water timer is good for filling a swimming pool by setting the needed water or working with a drip water system. Highly recommend it!
