ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!
These are so AWESOME!! simply open the case, slide your SSD into the form fit guide until it connects, then put the top back on! My motherboard has an external USB-C, so I connected it to this device and instantly up pops my drive!!SO much better than a USB-A device I was using before where you plug the drive in, and SO MUCH faster!! It feels like such a simple device, but it's so elegant and seamless!! No drivers to install, no software, just connect to your computer!BTW, I bought these in 2020 with intensions of using them, but I upgraded my computer and installed 6 SSDs...now I've further added 2 more SSDs to my computer, and I'm just using them 12-31-2024 with two 256GB drives as backup drives for priceless photos and documents...I cannot say enough about these!! When I upgrade future SSD drives and remove them from my computer, I'll definitely buy more of these to use for my SSDs of less capacity but for more critical backup purposes!!If you have extra SSDs laying around and a USB-C external connection on your computer/motherboard, GET ONE OF THESE!!**Again I bought these in 2020 and they came with a USB-A to USB-C cable...obviously you will slow down to USB-A if you use that cable, so unless they are now including USB-C to USB-C, you will be best to purchase a USB-C to USB-C cable for faster transfer rates!! I haven't tried the USB-A to USB-C cable included with the device, as I purchased a USB-C to USB-C cable from Amazon and when I plugged it into my computer's USB-C external port, it worked instantly!!***

Great Drive Enclosure - works fantastic for an SSD
I purchased this to house an SSD (Samsung EVO 860) drive that I've connected to a 2020 iMac.Installation was SUPER quick and intuitive. The whole process took me less than 90 seconds from the moment I opened the box until it was plugged into my computer and I was beginning the disk initialization process (and this was the first time I used an enclosure like this).I wondered about the cable used to connect the drives as some people have commented on the difference between the supplied USB-A to USB-C cable and using a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C to USB-C) cable as the USB-A theoretically has much less capacity. I tested both and found only a slight improvement in performance as this particular drive was already hitting up against its theoretical maximum regardless of which cable I used. The SSD drive I was using advertises 520MB/s write and 550MB/s read. Using the cable that came with this UGREEN drive enclosure, I was able to get sustained write speeds in the 420 MB/s range and sustained read speeds in the 430 MB/s range (pic attached of results). Extremely impressive and about ten times faster than the USB 2.0 portable external hard drive I was using previously. When I switched to a Thunderbolt cable (SUNGUY cable, available here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08GQRLYJ6), the speeds increased by 10-20%. With the Thunderbolt cable, I was seeing write speeds of 475 MB/s and 525 MB/s read. This is still a little short of what Samsung advertises as possible for the underlying drive, but impressive nonetheless.Bottom line: **this is a great enclosure.** For most users, you probably don't need to spend the extra $15-$20 to upgrade the cable to something more capable - the supplied cable should be good enough. It's unlikely that you're doing anything where you'll need the full capability of the enclosure made possible by a higher end capable. If you need the extra speed, however, it's easy to upgrade the cable.

Super easy, plug n play
My old enclosure stopped working. It showed it was getting power, and the drive would show up, but I'd get errors trying to access it. Figured it was my enclosure or my drive....and the enclosure is much cheaper to replace (not to mention the lost data if it's the drive). I browsed amazon real fast and this one seemed solid, and the price was good, so I bit.In fact, I like it much better than my old Rosewill enclosure. No tools required at all. Very simple. I didn't even need to look at any directions. It was put together and plugged into my computer in under a minute. Worked straight out of the box with Windows 10 - I needed nothing else. I plugged it in and the drive appeared. I can't speak to longevity because I've only had it a month, but the enclosure itself feels very solid and like it could take a beating (not that you'd want to, like, toss it out your 3rd floor window or anything). I feel like my drive is safe in it.It works perfectly, feels very sturdy, couldn't be easier to assemble, works plug-n-play with no additional software in Windows 10 at least, and the price was very reasonable. I can't really think of anything negative to say about it. I am pleased with my purchase and would buy it again.

Works, but the cable doesn't
I was pretty close to returning this until I realized the cable it comes with doesn't work with anything. Switching cables and it behaves as expected.

Best SSD enclosure on the market
Exactly what I was looking for. Verified the chipset used is the ASM235CM that they have in the photos. There is no better enclosure for an old SSD that I found. There's a popular Sabrent that allegedly uses Asmedia as well, and it's cheaper, but they don't advertise it as using it which means they may rotate it out someday. UGreen advertises Asmedia across the board on their enclosures, so I'm sticking with them. I have this and an older Startech that also uses an Asmedia chip, and it's been reliable for 9 years. The other one worth looking at is a few dollars more with an included USB-C to USB-C cable, but you're probably like me and using an old drive with another old device. USB-A ports range from 1.5MB/s to 1.25GBps so you'll need to be more aware if not using a USB-C to USB-C cable. I need the backwards compatibility. You need to identify a USB3 Gen2 port to get the full 6Gbps.Mine houses my old Intel X25-M G2 160GB drive (max 250MB/s read) that I use with an old Wii U (40MB/s). Both far outclassed by the 750MB/s theoretical transfer rate of the ASM235CM. Perfect!
