Q: Where are the lights located? I need a play mat that my young baby can see easily while she is laying on the mat.

The birds beak lights up but the music has to be playing. I've had the rainforest playmat and wish I would have went with that one again. The lights can easily be seen by baby and it has a small mobile that spun by itself which my son loved!!

Q: can this be packed easily - need to take a gift overseas

It came in a large flat box, the size of dresser mirror I would say, but very light.

Q: Does standard packaging also come with a amazon packaging box? If is just packed in a plastic bag? it would not be secured when shipping to overseas.

We leave ours put together and sit it behind our couch so when the baby comes over we can use it quickly. You can take it completely apart and store it. It's easy to put together.
