I got this holder to have a device to light strike any where matches on and it works perfect. I haven't tested its water resilience but that's not important to me. I wanted a container to hold strike anywhere matches that I could also strike against and its texture does just that. No sand paper strips that can wear down. Just a good, solid surface that has the perfect texture to strike the matches on.

What can you say? This is a faithful copy to the old Marble's Match Safe, as patented in 1900. Pushing 120 years, and nobody's really improved on the design. Unless you lose them, they'll outlast several owners. If you spend time outdoors (and they haven't sold out) grab two or three of these. It's a real pity they're discontinued.

The quality has declined over the years. The threads catch and are difficult to twist open. I can't imagine trying to do this with cold, stiff fingers during the winter. I sent them back.

I have been carrying one of these in my pocket for about 55 years every day with aspirins, a couple of matches, ear plugs and 2 tissues. I went to work (construction sweaty) and play (boating and river tubing) and always had dry ingredients. I hope me and this new one last another 55 years together. LIFE IS GOOD !

The best waterproof container available. My husband uses his to secure his medications in when he is away from home. It is slimmer than the plastic ones and its design makes it a better way of securing small items you don't want to get wet

Made of thin metal with sharp edges, can be hard to unscrew lid, lanyard loop is on the bottom instead of on the lid which could let water to run into the lid

Timeless design from a simpler era. My grandfather smoked a pipe and carries matches in one of these type of cases, I got one for Christms when I was 8 for my boy scout camp outs - a real piece of Canadiana in your pocket - I stock mine with the old eddy self strike matches and carry it when I go fishing to light cigars or a fire.
