but it pretty much runs unsupervised which is nice
Not as efficient or effective and a water cooled still, but it pretty much runs unsupervised which is nice. A copper pot water cooled still requires constant attention regulating the temp of the heat source and making shure you have plenty of cool water and/or ice. This one is pretty much automatic however the final product is not as good. You can run a batch through the machine several times and it gets better with ever pass but thats a lot of extra work. If you want a still that works, is easy for a beginner, and produces an OK product then this is a bit expensive but worth it. I use it a "rough draft" to extract as much goodness from my mash as it is capable of, then make a second pass in a copper still. before this machine I used to run everything through the still twice anyway to improve potency and taste, now I use this machine and it makes the first pass more "automated" its nice having both if you can afford it, but this thing aint cheap so some of the stove top stills avaiable on Amazon are cheaper and make better product, but require a little more skill than this plug and play device. regardless of all that, it delivers on everything it promises and is a quality constructed sturdy device. mine runs for hours at a time sometimes and Its never had a problem so it definately gets 5 stars

Great Service on an even better product - possibilities for use are endless
This unit has in the short time I've had it become a staple of my kitchen and I don't know what I would do without it. Unit has withstood being dropped and functions well. I don't recommend this certainly, and it is best not to try to lift it while full by the sides. Regarding customer service: My dumb a** couldn't figure out how to get the spout on at first, and contacted them, then promptly figured it out. They contacted me quickly regarding that. Then I thought the whole unit had broken (I used it so much I must have tripped my breaker running the sous vide at the same time, not a defect in the unit) and contacted them in a fugue, because in the few days I have had this unit I have come to love it, and then again promptly discovered the problem. The responded again, even though I had not taken the time to respond to their first post. I figured after putting them through that they deserved a good review.

All good things come with time......
Be patient. I've read rough reviews on this thing in multiple places. People expect way too much from this little one gallon magician. Make a simple sugar wash....1 cup sugar, 1 tsp red star yeast (activated for 2 minutes in warm water) and top off with H2O in a 1 gallon jug with an air lock or a simple loose cap. Keep it at about 75ยฐF and in about 10 days it'll start to clear. You'll get about 1 and 1/2 Mason jars of 40%-60% Vodka. It literally costs less than a dollar....and it's waaaay better than cheap Russian rotgut. Run the still for 1 hour....and then it'll start spitting out "juice". I always discard the first 30ml (1 shot) in case there's methanol in it. After that run it for 45 minutes more and collect the sweet alcohol in a container. Put an empty container under the spout for 30 more minutes and you'll get cutting juice. Filter that cutting juice in a Britta container 3 times to remove the burnt yeast taste and add it to your strong stuff. The end result is enjoyable. Can't say enough. Be patient, it's not a 10 gallon fire still, but it's awesome.

Great for beginners!
Works great, no issues with it. I do wish it had either temp control or at least temp monitoring, but it's great for starting out!
