Go Away, Big Green Monster!

My preschoolers love this book! It helps them take control over their fears, and even find the silliness in some of them! Their favorite line is “and don’t come back until I say so!”

This book holds such a special place in my heart. My son absolutely loved it, and it quickly became one of those stories that defined a stage of our lives. By the time he was four, he had memorized every single word. All I had to do was turn the pages and show the pictures, and he would recite the entire book with confidence and excitement. What made it so magical was how empowering it was for him. The simple, repetitive language and bold illustrations helped turn something scary into something manageable—and even fun. Watching him “send away” the monster page by page felt like watching his confidence grow in real time. Looking back now, it’s more than just a children’s book. It’s a snapshot of quieter days, bedtime routines, and that fleeting age when imagination ruled everything. Those really were the days.

My 3 year old grandson enjoyed telling the story with the hand puppet while Grandma read the story. Fun!

My kids love this book. Looks like these always teach them life lessons and spark other types of conversations. We referenced them when needed as adults.
