goal world cup film
This film is possible the best record that there is of the 1966 world cup tournament in England, it has a cinema style presentation with an expert narrative from Brian Glanville. the sound and picture quality is very good and the tension and excitement is all there especially where the exploits of the North Koreans are concerned. The final againest West Germany is well covered and features some great action shots as well as the atmosphere with the crowd etc, plus its all in glorious colour. Finally its time this came out on DVD i am sure lots of people would find it interesting and for those lucky English fans who were there on that memorable day a super reminder of English footballs greatest moment.

Best of English football
Well it's 2011, this little gem of a capsule that shows our greatest year of football is still not on DVD!Staggering isn't it, as I am sure would include more footage of unreleased material that was cut to make this movie. It really is a great piece of history..although it was originally filmed in the widest of widescreen aspect ratio, this video is the old fashioned almost square 4:3 format, so you do miss a lot of the original picture. It is widescreen during opening credits to fit the text on. 5/5

Hilarious
I bought this video for my partner to replace another copy that was lost, he and his son roll around with tears of laughter. They love it!! It is a little dated in the commentary and perhaps some of the comments made about the people of individual countries not for the 21st century, but nevertheless a video to be watched particularly if this was your era, it has good nostalgic value.

Englands finest hour!!
I was only four when this World cup final was played, but like most people I have seen the final many times. The official fifa film of the 66 World Cup Finals is superb.Shot in a documentary style, it provides all the atmosphere and excitement of the event and shows all the great moments, Charlton's great goal against Mexico and the brutal tackles on Pele. Particularly good is the build up to the day of the final and of course the final itself. The celebrations after the match are superb as well.I have to say, it is one of the very best films on football, I heartily reccomend it great fun. One small criticism, when is coming out on DVd?

Own Goal!
When is this film going to be released on DVD! I can hardly believe that this film, showing the glorious 1966 World Cup by England, is still only available in VHS format in 2006 - the year the World Cup is to be played in Germany.Perhaps someone in the industry will see this plea and arrange an urgent release at this OPTIMUM SELLING OPPORTUNITY!

A classic example of retro brilliance.
In the sixties this was possibly a mediocre film of our greatest football year. Thirty years later however Goal is as collectable and nostalgic as Charlie Chaplin or Laurel and Hardy in that it takes us back to a distant era totally alien to anyone below the age of 35. Granted the football coverage isn't great but that isn't what Goal is all about ( in 2002 anyway ) - watch the opening sequence and listen to the music and you'll get my gist, this is classic stuff perfect for post pub, late evening viewing with a few mates. But it doesn't stop there, the narration is pure Chumley ( not sure how to spell this ) Warner, the one liners stunning and pregnant pauses the work of an unknowing genius - it sounds like the bloke from the clangers. The tension is built slowly and the description of the various teams and their various Stars as they disembark their planes at Heathrow keeps you smiling. If you like seventies retro, Curtis Mayfield / Marvin Gaye, love football, and have a sense of humour you will treasure this video and get excited everytime you show it to unwitting friends. a three word summary - Hilarious, nostaligic, genius. Buy this video now but save your first viewing for 11:30 on a Friday or Saturday night and you wont regret it.
