I used 1/4 inch, but you could use 5/16. The hole is 3/8 , They look great I have picture of final project if you would like to see it.

I don’t know if there are leg brackets. Ours are not joined together.

Do you want to know how many steps are needed, or the actual length of the stringer? These stringers have 7.5" height (rise), and 10" tread (run). So, a deck height of 10' (or 120") ÷ 7.5" equals 16 steps. However, if you actually meant what is the stringer length, the pythagorean theorem: a²+b²=c², where 'a' is the rise, 'b' is the run, will calculate the stringer length 'c'.
