Good Sentence Structure
This book serves two purposes: to give an English/Language Arts teacher a guide to teaching grammar, and a student the tools he or she needs to learn it. Utilizing a series of sentence patterns, this book explains the various sentence structures one will come across in the English language, how to use them, and the pitfalls of each. There are tons of examples and opportunities to practice. After the patterns are learned, the book proceeds to provide lessons on improving the quality of sentences. Even though a sentence is grammatically correct, does not mean it has any type of style to it. The student can expand on his/her mastery of the language in order to create writing that is more stylish and robust.Like anything else, there are down sides. One of them is that some of the patterns are really tricky and, having worked in higher education as well as publishing I can tell you, there is such thing as over-finesse. The fact is, the majority of readers do not need complicated sentence structures to be impacted by the written word. A certain amount of style will separate you from someone at the high school level, but too much is just overkill in a world that mostly does not even know all of the sentence structures within this book. So just be careful not to overdo it; you might end up creating more work for yourself.Overall, this is a beneficial book and I would highly recommend it to College Freshmen who may have struggled in English Composition in High School. Most Colleges and Universities will require some type of college writing course for graduation (and it will also serve as a basis for other courses) and some students find the transition tricky. I also recommend this to those who wish to clean up their language use to produce writing that is far more professional.

Good for grammar and reading comprehension.
This book takes the reader through the twenty basic sentence patterns and how to write them. I realize that some of you misguided folks may laugh, but grammar can be exciting, and this book is exciting. I am going to be using this with my AP Language and Composition class to enhance their ability to read and analyze literature, but I am also going to use it as a tool with my standard students to enhance their understanding of complicated sentences when reading more sophisticated literature.

Solid resource for the writer
I was lucky enough to pick up a used copy of this book. It is a handy little resource for giving a little added dimension and style to your writing. Perhaps what makes The Art of Styling Sentences so resourceful is that it caters to writing in various areas: high school writing, college and academic writing, leisure writing, etc. The book contains explanations for many sentence patterns, with examples and models, and then activities that can be used for practice. There are also examples and models taken from literature. Also, this book serves as a reminder that there are ways to change up and add some variety to writing. Sometimes if a student is so focused on getting an assignment done, they do not take time to think about their writing style. Many of the patterns in this book serve to be those reminders, and practice is essential. While many of the patterns may seem quite basic, they can be expanded into more sophisticated writing practice. This book is just a very useful and practical book to have when you need to spice up a paragraph or just give a little variation to your style. As the book’s title proposes, writing is an art form (sometimes frustratingly so), and it takes practice, practice, practice. This is a great resource to check out for any writers out there who want that practice.

Good practice
Nice book for students who are motivated to improve the flow of their writing. Good idea to present one sentence structure at a time, give examples, then have students write their own examples. An enjoyable way for students to acquire a useful writing tool.

Excellent concise English power tools
I hate other verbose grammar and style books. This one is well written with high skim value. Excellent examples and examples from famous sources. These tools will add value to all of your writing. There are blank spaces for exercises which I highly recommend that you complete.

A must for e-book publishers
I could never have converted my texts to electronic without this book.. It is definitive and set up to help the writer get the job done.

Twenty patterns to enrich your writing
I'm using this book with my remedial writing class. It's an eye-opener, seeing how many sentence patterns there are. I hope to see my students' research papers brimming with patterns this year! ;) The author provides exercises for practice. She clearly knows her stuff.

Good Sentence Structure/Style Guide
I purchased this book to better understand sentence structure and style. This is your basic sentence styling study book with lots of examples, even exercises and explains things fairly well. I'm sure there are more advanced books for sentence structure and styling but for the type of writing I'm doing it was very useful. Some of the styles I was already aware and had used, but the book explains in detail the differences and even shows how you can mix styles together. It also has excerpts of already published content to better explain and show clearer how those styles can be used. They also encourage you to mix around yourself and be creative. It's a good sentence structure/style book and worth the money, but if you want something more advanced this may not be what you want.

平易な英語文体論入門
英語を書いたり読んだりするときに役立ちそうな内容である。とりわけワクワクして読んだのは「簡潔で劇的な効果をあげるための短い単文」(p.115) である。われわれは基本5文型を習う。しかし第一文型SVのような文型は実際使われるのでは思ってしまう。たいてい第二文型 SVC (e.g. I am happy.)か SVAP (He is in the garden.)である(He is in the gardenを SV に含める書もあるが、in the garden は義務的な副詞句(adverbial phrase = AP)なので、SV に含めるのはおかしい。現在は SVAP, SVOAP を含めた7文型説が有力である)。本書では長い文が続いた後、SV文を用いると要約的な働きを表して文章がしまるという。例として挙がっているものをいくつか引用する。All efforts failed./ Everything changed. / Perseverance pays. / Days passed.文型を教えるときにはこういった文体的効果にも言及すべきだと思う。
