12" MUSICAL Subwoofer that hits low and also pounds hard. Puts a smile on my face
Buying this Hertz Mille Pro 12" subwoofer, I have No regrets! I auditioned it at an audio shop near me and decided to buy it and they made a custom enclosure for it and added extra volume to account for the displacement the speaker takes up. It sounds amazing and blends very well with my front speakers after time aligning it with my Audison Bit ten. Granted it is a larger 12" compared to my 10" JL W6v3, and definitely hits its lower in the 20hz-40hz range that I always felt was missing from the 10". Also a 10" subwoofer has to be given more watts(heat/less longevity) to produce the same db sound pressure as a 12". This sub pounds hard and remains musical! Amazing! Just buy the 12".Have it in a custom 1.08 cubic ft sealed box and this Hertz Mille pro 12" subwoofer sounds sublime, amazing. I prefer pulp(paper) cones over poly(plastic) ones, blends better, hits hard yet is graceful, natural, more musical, in my opinion with the front speakers. Have the sub crossed over at 70hz with a Butterworth 24db slope to better blend with my mids which are also crossed over at 80hz, Butterworth 24db slope(since they don't roll off much. It sounds best placed up against the back seat in the trunk firing rearward. I eq'd the sub at 20hz and 25hz flat, 31hz and 40hz up 1db, at 50 hz and 63 hz down -2.5db, 80 hz down by -.3db, 100hz flat, and 125hz down -5.3db. Will depend upon the characteristics of your cabin how you should eq yours. The subwoofer also sounds good crossed over with a linkwitz 24db filter but at 80hz instead of the 70hz when using a more aggressive butterworth filter, though in my car the 24db butterworth filter crossed over at 70hz on the subwoofer blended better. There is no "best" filter, it all depends on your speakers, how they roll off and how the interior of your car affects the freq response of your speakers and what you need to do to make your 5 speakers or how ever many drivers you have disappear and that you simply hear the vocals centered on your dash and instruments left and right coming through as if in person..I had previously run a JL W6v3 that came in a JL enclosure. Bought that in 2014 or 2015. Model number: CS110G-W6v3. That subwoofer sounded great but took much longer to tune it and have it blend with my front speakers. Though that sealed sub blended best at an 18db@80hz low pass and 24db@25 hi pass butterworth slope in my car with 20 hertz up 1db, 25 hz up 1 db, 31 hz up 1.5 db, 40hz up 1.3 db, 50hz down -.3db, 63db down -.5db, 80hz up 1db, 100hz up .5db, and 125hz down by 4.3db. Overall, I never loved that subwoofer. For rap or hip hop, it sounded sublime, but not transparent enough on classic rock songs. I think I like subwoofers that have a pulp(paper) cone material. The plastic cone of the JL sub always sounded un-natural to me and for lack of a better word... powerful yet a slight fogginess in a way that didn't blend as well with certain music types... Well, that sub finally blew out this year, 2024 after nearly 10 years. I drive 14 hours at a time, so I guess I got a good 9 or 10 years out of it. It got so hot in that .6 cu ft sealed box it eventually melted the plastic away from the metal terminals. I decided to upgrade to a 12" more efficient subwoofer so I can turn the gains down to produce the same db level. The 12" Hertz sub is turned down 3db compared to the 10" JL and thus uses about half the power of the 10" to produce the same loudness, should increase longevity and produce less heat on those long car rides.
