You have to screw them pretty tight and wrap the line more than once or you will lose it.

These are a less expensive style of Air Gap Strike Indicators ... but they do not have a slit in the threaded stem ... so you have to wrap your leader around the threaded tab a couple of times before it will not go flying off with normal casting. I tried drilling a small hole in the threaded tab but that means threading the bobber onto the leader before you tie on the fly ... or cutting the leader and barrel-knotting it back together. Great fly fishing aid!

This versions of the thingamabobber is not anything like they are supposed to be. First they are 2 to 3 times the weight of similar products which cause problems for my normal fly cast when nymphing. I’ve used half inch versions for years and was speaking to my fishing buddy when he told me about the screw clamp version. He bought some at a local fly shop and loved them. During Covid my shop was closed and I ordered these. The weight poses two problems. Your cast isn’t natural and the little extra load you put on the cast causes the Strick indicator to come off the line. I watched in a half day 4 float down stream faster than I can get to them and many many more I was able to retrieve. I tried multiple ways to twist my tippet around and no matter what I did the weight was too much and they just kept flying off after a few casts. Went and picked up a pack at my local Orvis shop and those where less expensive and are so much lighter. These are not worth the money or the frustration. Not even good in a pinch.

Just what I wanted

Well I was hoping that was going to be a decent product. But unfortunately I was wrong. This by far gas been the worse bopper I have every used. The first one but I tried. I followed the instructions on the back of the package. Well the first cast the bopper flew off. The stem (screw) pulled out of the center of the bopper. The second, I tried again. It lasted 3 cast before flying off. The third time I rapped the line around the stem twice, it last maybe 10 cast. At this point I was so frustrated 😡 I didn't waste my time with the remaining boppers. I would strongly suggest not wasting your money on this product.

These are awful. I thought for sure I ordered the other brand. I brought these on the river and they all can’t off my line every cast. 10 minutes later I had to leave because I was out of strike indicators. These are simply the worst ever - get the other brand that actually locks onto your leader.
