5 stars for the actual book. However, this book was listed as new. It is not new. It has library stickers all over the cover.

Another beautiful Ghibli movie. Fantastic animation, and wonderful characters and plot.

Gift for my husband. He loves it and the movie too. We got it to add to our Ghibli collection.

The media could not be loaded.  I actually have the Japanese edition of this book so I borrowed the English one for review.What's different here is the cover art, and also the dust jacket is smooth instead of textured. It's translated by VIZ Media who does a good job, as usual. The book has 248 pages but only 208 pages are on the art with the rest being the script. The film's directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, a new director.The book's loaded with colourful concept art. There are character designs, storyboards, background paintings and film stills. Much of the concept art is in pencil and watercolour as usual. I see some drawn by Hayao Miyazaki but the rest seems to be drawn by others -- I could be wrong. The drawings are captioned but not credited.The art is beautiful, of course. Characters designs are wonderful, cute, and pastel colours are nice. One thing with the character design is, they seem to look very similar to previous films from the studio. Looking through the book, I kept thinking that the characters here are the same "actors" as previous films but set in a different script. Arrietty's the main character and she's a tiny person. So it's interesting to see how household items are incorporated and used as gadgets.The storyboards are great, really telling the story without any words. Just by looking at them, you know the story or idea works. Afterall, this is concept art.The background paintings are of lush green countrysides, which you could really mistake them for coming from Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke. And there are paintings of Arrietty's home and the different locations. The art direction is unmistakable, uniquely Studio Ghibli.It's a beautiful book for fans of Studio Ghibli.(There are more pictures of the book on my blog. Just visit my Amazon profile for the link.)

This is not the Arriety I remember from my childhood. It's better! How wonderful to combine Miyazaki-like animation with such a beloved story. This was a gift from a family member and I will treasure it. The artistry and style is just as beautiful as Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle but perhaps a bit more approachable for younger kids. I'll be passing this on to a great niece, I think, later on. I liked the original borrower's stories but this illustration art is more expressive, the characters faces and the action. I am very pleased with this collectible.

Beautiful quality imagery. Great addition to the movie. I would have liked a bit more concept art, but it's still a great art book library addition worth having.

This book is so beautiful and really tells you about everything that makes this movie amazing. The art and the lighting is described in the book and the sketches show all the ideas that were thought of. If you love the movie or just a Ghibli fan you'll love this! It also arrived very fast.

Questo libro è stupendo. Lo si potrebbe dire di tutti gli artbook dello Studio Ghibli? Forse sì, ma alcuni sono davvero dei gioielli. Questo lo è, non solo perché il film è un piccolo capolavoro, con dei fondali dipinti in modo stupefacente. E' stampato bene, su carta di ottima qualità, con numerosi schizzi e studi dei personaggi e, soprattutto (per chi ama questi libri), un gran numero di background arts dipinte con un talento incredibile (si vedano gli interni della casa delle bambole). Da non perdere.

Mais um livro excelente da série "The Art Of" dos filmes do Studio Ghibli, a VIZ faz um belíssimo livro nessa série, já tenho todos da coleção (são exatamente 11 livros nessa série no momento da minha avaliação em 2020) e eu sempre mando uns feedbacks direto no site da VIZ americana com sugestão de lançamento de mais livros para filmes do Studio Ghibli, a qualidade desses livros é inquestionável, a gramatura do papel, a qualidade da tinta, o acabamento na capa dura, sem pontos negativos.

What? Why just Four starts for this Awesome animation movie's book! Reason is Amazon, Yes! They giving wrong information about this edition of the book. It's a softcover edition (ISBN-10: 1421541181 / ISBN-13: 978-1421541181), NOT a hard cover edition. Even i doubt that Hardcover edition have produced or not.
