The Genuine Evinrude Diagnostics can finally be offered to the independant powersports workshop or DIY home mechanic. The "Evinrude Diagnostics Software Program" communicates with the Engine Control Unit ("ECU") and the Engine Management Module ("EMM") and is used for retrieving engine diagnostic information, setting engine operating parameters, performing engine maintenance and printing engine reports on Evinrude Direct Injection or "DI" engines and Evinrude E-TEC series engines. Review: Produit conforme, facile d'installation et de prise en main Review: My Evinrude ETEC-90 was doing some strange things and leaving me worried that I might not be able to get back to the ramp. In Florida summer waters of over 90F, my engine would run fine for most of the day, but then at the very end of our outing, around 2pm, it would lose power and die. I changed the spark plugs and got a new water separating fuel filter, but the same thing happened the next time I went out. Online research indicated that I needed to diagnose a possible issue with fuel injectors or ECM, so after a bit of further research, I bought this diagnostic adapter. I dug out an old Acer Netbook to install the software on. I needed to hook it up to an external monitor because the installation software needed more screen resolution than my netbook offered. I didn't dock a star from my review because even though the installation software could be more flexible, I really skimped on the computer that I'm using to run this tool with. After reviewing the usage instructions, I hooked it up, turned on the ignition, and got the first readings from the engine. All looked good. All looked really good. I was able to output a printable file that showed all of the diagnostics and history of the engine, and to determine that my problem didn't appear to be with the electronics (whew!). With a bit more research, I learned that I probably had a vapor-lock situation inside the engine's fuel recirculation reservoir caused by heat soak due to a combination of hot water temperature and an impeller that was overdue for replacement. This is an older bit of tech, but it's high value for anyone with a G1 ETEC engine (all ETEC engines under 115hp are G1). What I like: - It hooks right up to the engine. - It hooks right up to a laptop. - It works with an old Windows 7 netbook or a new Windows 11 laptop. - It shows the fault code history of the engine in an easily readable table. - It shows current engine trim and operating parameters if the engine is running. If I could have one extra thing, I'd ask for Bluetooth connectivity, but hey, it's old-tech. I give it 5 stars for good value and good functionality. I don't need to go to the Evinrude shop and leave my boat there for who knows how many weeks to get a diagnosis that will cost me more than this device, and then have the mechanic only guessing at what's wrong.
